Looking for Wine and Spirit storage ideas

As we unpack, the lack of furniture in the new place is providing opportunities and challenges. Previously all the alco was stored in some built-in shelves and kind of locked away from the prying kids. Now looking to put some sort of a wine and spirit storage shelves. It will be in the dining room (yup, no wine celler yet). We usually ahve about 20-30 bottle of wines; probably about 20 bottles of spirits of various sizes.

There seems to be plenty of options state side, but not may decent ones on this side of the pond. How do the forumers care about their spirits?

Mine don't normally last long enough to need storage. I find drinking them as quickly as possible takes care of the lack of storage space.

Have you ever googled IKEA hacks?

You can get some ingenious ideas on how to buy IKEA furniture and make it into more or less anything you can think of. The best I've seen is a expedit bookcase with a sheet of perspex over the front and back, making it a really cool multi-level hamster/small animal home.

If you are serious, you can actually get specialist Wine Cabinets which, if you have the space somewhere, are really good storage units. The large Refrigeration outlet just down the road from me (not far from you) has several brands/styles, including dual temp ones.

Has the advantage of setting a limit on the number you can collect, if that's a consideration, too!

I dont have a 'collection'... the wines are fairly high street/Majestic that I bulk buy. Then over the year, it gets drunk, gifted and some get gifted back etc. I wud love to be a position to have a proper collection, but dont have the dough to support that yet..

I dont have a 'collection'... the wines are fairly high street/Majestic that I bulk buy. Then over the year, it gets drunk, gifted and some get gifted back etc. I wud love to be a position to have a proper collection, but dont have the dough to support that yet..

In that case, the Ikea one looks the sort of thing to go for - especially if the height of the wine storage area can be adjusted.

Plenty of snobby twaddle talked about wine storage, but best to keep it out of the kitchen, as it's the changes in temperature that 'damage' wine - over a period of time - and there are better uses for the (normally) limited space in kitchens!

Agree... Picking up the stuff from Ikea tonight.. planning to put it up tomorrow, will post pics (if any good)

Our Ikea was out of the mirror shelf, but it seems to have worked out alright. Here is a pic


Total cost about 90 quid, but looks worth much more. Will add another glass door for the 2nd half of the shelf. .. All credit to Sawtooth for the Ikeahackers.net idea..
