Morning guys and gals, Been getting back into the photography game over the last few months, couple of sets below would appreciate any comments you wish to offer.

Constructive critisism is appreciated, please don't just say they're s**t!

Hot Air Balloons
(inc 20 second video)

Kites (Let's go fly a kite type, not birds!)

Mate, does it matter what others think? Its your hobby and if you enjoy it that's all that should matter.

I enjoyed looked at the kites, some fabulous colours and shapes. Seemed good photography to me but what do I know!!!

Absolutely nothing, judging by your Machrihanish Dunes pics

It only matters in that I have only been going a couple of months and would like to think the stuff I take is of interest to others, otherwise why bother if it is just going to be unseen on a hard-drive somewhere!

Intention is to do a course of somekind in the near future.

Spoff,

What camera do you use? Are you shooting in JPEG or RAW?

To be honest, and again, I'm not the best photographer by any means and most of mine are portraits, but the focus seems out on a few, not that sharp. I can find it quite hard to get good shots including the sky as your background, which is why I mainly stick to portraits\indoor piccy's.

Maybe try a polarising filter on outdoor shots with sky as that may help.

Still shooting JPEG, want to have a course of somekind before I step up to RAW, and to be honest I am not sure my camera is up to it. I'm using a Panasonic Lumix G2 which is basically a wannabe DSLR!

The horizon is not straight on some of them which is one of my biggest faults and something I am more conceous of now.

I like the pictures and you got the colour, positioning and focus well. I use RAW pretty well all the time as there is much more latitude in the after shot processing (I use Photoshop CS3) where you can edit up or down about 3 stops. You can easily straighten horizons in the processing and you dont really need a course to work with RAW, but it does,of course, use up a lot more of your memory card.

Best of luck

Chris

some great pictures you have there, i normally shoot in jpeg as i can not be bothered with the extra time it takes to process the RAW files, but then again time was everything to me as i was sending them to the papers and less editing the better.

If its for Personal use then use RAW and the amount of editing options is a lot better without a loss of quality.

I like the balloon pics, as you said some horizons are a little off but I don't think it mattered to much in that context, some times it can add a bit more interest to a shot.

Th kites are a lot more difficult to get right I think, some are out of focus and to me one or two of them look odd to me where the animal kites are looking out of the photo to the bottom left of the frame. As I said difficult subject to get the composition right.

Cheers everyone, some good comments and things for me to look at.

Tim, agree with the composition of the kites, not noticed them being out of focus - but had my eyes tested at the weekend so will have another look when the new glasses arrive!!!
