Looking fo a rangefinder?

Bla Bla Hilman... LOVE mine!! However to comment on the solar energy bit that I think is interesting bob, I keep my range finder in a range finder sized pocket in my bag, it will never see the light of day bar when it is being used so I am not sure solar energy will ever really get to it.
 
If the rangefinder is a good one then it would be fine, but I wouldn't let the solar powered part of it influence your decision.

You can get Duracell batteries on Ebay about £10 for 3, and in mine at least they last 4 or 5 months per battery. For that money it's not worth worrying about imo.
 
are they power hungry wee things? why dont they make a wind up one just like this ...

Bob, I brought the cheaper version last week for £85 without solar panel and it's great. Im a site surveyor and use equipment that's measure to within 0.0000 mm and I tested my range finder to see if I was within then stated +/- 1yard and it was bang on every time. It reads distances in an instant. I tested by using taking a measurement with the range finder to 1 point of intrest and then taking the same measurement with my surveying kit and you ain't going to get any more precise than my kit which cost around £30k.
So for sorting that cost under £100 and competes with something at £250+ then its ano brainier for me.

I tested it from 6yards to 300 yards and it was spot all the time. It's alright bragging about the hillman but has anyone done a similar test to check it ??

In that case, it seems as if they've invented a cure for a problem that doesnt exist.

Interesting to hear your experience Golfdub.
It would seem the Hillman has competition :)

I think they are actually all pretty much the same range finder electronic massed produced in china with different branding. Don't have a load of surveying equipment but I had done a quick side by side of the Hillman against a Bushnell. Both reading within a yard of each other if the result was different. The only advantage I found with the bushnell is that it made longer distance measurements +175yards a bit easier to get due to the pin seeker tech.

I'm the same, although to be fair at that distance it's the swing that goes wrong before the Hillman!!
