Son and I have played quite a bit in Spain but always on the Costas. We are off to Logrono to play 3 courses - Sojuela, Alto Rioja and Logrono itself. They all get good write ups on review sites and the green fees are very reasonable compared to the Costas. An attraction apparently not to be missed is the lively tapas/ vino tinto trail in the old town. Anyone out there done it?
Will report back on return at end of April.

Well, that was outstanding.Played Izki x2, Logrono x2 and Sojuela once. All three offer beautiful views of the spectacular mountainous scenery. Logrono was the star of the show, in beautiful condition and with the back 9 offering some truly memorable "signature" holes. Izki is Sevvy designed with bags of variety. The condition was very good with just an odd bare patch on the fairway - last summer's drought I guess. Sojuela is very hilly with lots of ball above/below stances and cross slopes.Condition was very good. All fees were reasonable 2 gfs + buggy 100-120 euros. We received a warm welcome and had the distinct impression that English visitors are a bit of a novelty. Logrono is big bustling place with a lovely lively centre by the cathedral. Tons of tapas bars and restaurants with again reasonable prices and ,of course, the fabulous Rioja wine at 2 to 4 euros a glass.
All in all a great trip to play some top courses in stunning scenery and to eat and drink in an authentic Spanish setting. Muy bien - We will do it again before very long.
Ps All 3 courses have good websites.
