Lob Wedge Bounce angle

is it illegal by golf rules to make any physical alterations to a club head ?

i was thinking of filing some off the sole off my lob wedge to alter the bounce angle as i hit it thin on the hard fairways i play on at my local club.

I'm not 100% but I know the rules a bit and I think you would be in violation as its not now the club that was submitted for approval by the r&a. And it isn't an adjustment that could be defined as custom fitting. Buy a new wedge ;)

If your not a pro and playing with your mates who cares or are you on the pga tour?? i guess not otherwise you would not be asking that question

Go get it ground off by a proper club fitter/maker.

And no, that's won't make it illegal. Changing its playing characteristic during a round (like adding or removing lead tape) is against the rules though.

'C' Grind is a pretty good general one for reducing the effective bounce. You can also use impact tape against a lie board (make sure you stand on something to make the heights match 'real life') to see where the club is actually hitting the ground (often the heel) and take a bit more off that area as well.
