Lining up your putt.

I don't spend a great amount of time lining up putts. Will check the contours on approach to the green and when playing partners are putting or marking their ball. Then line up using lettering on the ball one practice swing and I'm ready.

walk up behind it, pick my line (I know the way my local greens run)
Pick a piece of grass about 1' in-front of ball.
Mark ball, then rotate ball till line and blade of grass are lined up.
Stare at hole 2 swings to get length.
Club behind ball parallel to line and grass.
check body to see if I'm square then hit away.

I would look at the green as i walk upto it.. See what way its running..

then line myself up behind the ball pick my line and then have a few practice stokes so that i am happy with the pace i am putting into it..

Works very well for me from 10foot under.. I do find the longer putts a little harder as i tend always to under hit them, feel like i need a heavy putter for these..

Remember i old pro on tv once saying its surprising how much you mind take it from a quick look at a putt and alot of Amatuer golfers tend to study read into putts to mcuh and in the end make a balls of it.. I know a few people i play with, who full into this statment..

I did say to my mate once that I'm entitled to take as much time over my 4 shots as he did over his 6 :D

Great quote , got me chuckling this morning :D

Cheers! :) It's simply true though isn't it?

The people moaning about putting normally have about 30+ shots more than everyone else. I spend 5 minutes looking for everyone else's ball but an extra 30 seconds looking down a putt and they're in tears.

Crrrraazzzzzzy especially seeing as putting is a) one of the most important parts of golf b) one of the most enjoyable parts

I never thought of it like this before and I like where you're going with it

Jim Furyk at the WGC yesterday.....address the ball, walk away, address the ball, walk away, address the ball.....FFS MAN JUST HIT IT!!!!!

Or is it just a cunning ploy that if he keeps doing it enough his opponent will get so bored he'll concede it????

If an opponent does that to me he is obviously unsure about it and he is definetly putting it
