I was referring to preferred lies which are only on closely mown areas and involve moving your ball only a small distance - 6" is common or maybe up to a club length. It's a permitted local rule and so allows a competition to be a qualifier. .

The permitted local rule is only 6" to remain a qualifying comp. Congu 15.3

Blimey, not what I would call "oozes class"....for me, after the initial incident she came across as a cheat who was trying to cover up that she had been caught.

Really ? A cheat ? really, on the LPGA tour when you were number 2 in the world, a cheat ? That's the pretty strong term to use when referencing a golfer nevermind her standing in the game. I'm guessing you haven't seen/read or heard of how she's dealt with things post that incident, to me, pure class, to you, a cheat !

I have....initially denied any wrong doing. She clearly knew what she was doing, deliberately replacing her ball in a different position to gain an advantage. Class would have been to stick to the rules.....no way did she not know what she was doing. But hey ho, you are obviously a big fan of hers so let's agree to disagree.

I don't suppose Lexi Thompson will be a reader of this noble forum nor would be much bothered by your opinion that she is a cheat but I seriously don't think it is right that you should be posting defamatory comments about her - or anyone else for that matter.

Didn't Phil Mick state not long after said incident that it happens all the time on the tour, touch to the side to miss the spike mark on line, or imperfection on green, sure I read he said that.

That doesn’t make her any less of a cheat. It simply means they’re all at it.

i watched it live and thought she rallied well and was unfortunate to lose at the time. But having seen replays, imo she clearly repacked it so as to miss a mark on the green. That’s cheating, plan and simple.

I defy any single golfer not to have done the same at some point during their golfing career, if you are suggesting she was cheating, and you haven't done it, then I'm suggesting you are a liar, when I say everyone at some point has replaced the ball not "exactly" back correctly.

Id agree that we all replace the ball with a degree of inaccuracy. Have I done so to miss a big pitch mark or bit of rough grass on a green. Nope. Sorry to disappoint, but you take the rough with the smooth.

Ive complained about it and cursed my luck, but just like I don’t improve my lie in the rough, or tactically remove a few branches from a bush that may impede my back swing I’ve never contemplated purposely putting from an advantageous position.

Call me me a liar all you wish, but just because you or someone you admire has, doesn’t mean we all would.

Difference is if the likes of us to do it makes hardly any difference but for her, or any other pro (as Phil advocates they do) it could mean winning hundreds of thousands. And knowing she is being watched by multiple TV cameras makes her naive too.
Agree with Papas, her motivation was to gain an unfair advantage, thats cheating in my book and irrelevant whether any of us, or anyone else has done it before or since. As a so called sporting role model I guess you could argue some might even copy her actions now.

I'm not defending what she done, when you see it, it's massive and does look a bit suspect, but again, calling anyone a cheat at golf, I believe, is the biggest accusation one can make.

Enough indeed. As I said above, it isn't right to be posting defamatory comments about her - or anyone else for that matter.

I have never seen this forum needing the intervention of a moderator. Let's keep it that way.

I think the point being made by the guys is this is a Rules part of the forum where mainly people ask Rules questions etc and it’s doesnt normally decent down to levels that you see on this thread.

There was a long thread about the Lexi Thompson incident where it’s more relevant and of course can be an Open debate. It would be a shame to see a mod have to step in on the rules area
