...to complain that the usage of mobile phones during tournaments has got out of hand..! This article says that it was the large number of fans taking pictures on their phones that caused him to withdraw with 'mental fatigue' becaue he kept having to back off shots. However, it seems that attendance at PGA Tour events is significantly up since they relaxed the 'no phones' rule so it's unlikely tha they'll reintroduce it any time soon. Amazingly, that article says that 'nowadays, if fans can't bring their phones, they're more likely not to come at all'. What the..?!
 
To be honest (for the pros) putting in a set of earplugs and then taking their shot isn't exactly rocket science..... they can probably afford those special ones made exactly to your own ear shape.
 
If I cannot go to a golf tour event without my mobile phone I will definatly not be going...

Such rules would not stop me attending, I would like to have it with me but not have to leave it in the car or have it "confiscated" on arrival. I would be much happier if there was a safe place to leave it along the lines of a coat check... (cogs start turning)

Imagine being the attendee of the "phone check" stand :) Phones going off all the time, the place buzzing with text messages, letting people know they have an urgent text or call about something important... Sounds like a great job yes?
 
It wasn't long ago that mobile 'phones didn't exist, now it appears that people can't exist without them. They are always talking about urgent calls. When were they ever pulled off the golf course by the secretary because they were wanted on the 'phone. Never.

I dont want pulled off by secretary, perish the thought man.
 
At St Georges they frisked for phones and you wern't allowed to take them in. My mate had his and had to walk back to put it in his car (not far as luck would have it) but the queues it caused by frisking and sorting out those who had phones were quite long even on the practice days.

Surely telling people to turn them off would have been ok and, on practice days, cameras are normally allowed anyway!

And, by the way Gerry Kelly was chatting on his on the first tee box and several other players I saw using theirs too
 
i don't mind if people carry a phone on the course so long as it is on silent,what i do mind is the moron who decided to phone his mate in the club house from the 18 tee box to order a pint and a pie and burst into fits of laughter as i was putting on the 17th last week.
 
Surely there needs to be a modicum of common sense. Let people in with a clear understanding they are on silent and are not to be used to take pictures during play. Transgress and get ejected. Simple enough to me. That way if there really is some emergency you can still be contacted and players can get on with banking their next million
 
We had to go through airport style scanners to get onto the buses at the Ryder Cup car park......
Absolutely no phones - good job too, they'd have drowned.
 
Mobile phones - bane of my life. On my weekly commute from Manchester to London I sit in the quiet zone for the peace and quiet. Signs everywhere tell you it's the quiet zone, announcements tell you it's the quiet zone but on every journey without fail either a couple of phones start ringing or someone answers it and has a loud conversation - usually starting with the words "Can't talk long, I'm in the quiet zone". Is it a sense of self importance that they can't be unavailable or is it just pig ignorance?
On the golf course my mobile is switched off. If you're waiting for an emergency/urgent call coming through then don't go out on the course for 4 hours!
I've thought about the blockers but unfortunately it's illegal in the UK. Oh, and I work for a Telco.
