Never played this course despite it being little more than 15 minutes from my door and just found out it is £14 for 18 holes and on a Thursday 2-fore-1.

I have next Thursday off work, and so does a mate

Anyone played the course and want to offer opinions? For that price I don't expect it to be the quality of St Andrews but sure it will be a better course than I am golfer!!!

I'll give you my honest opinion, mate. It's the worst course I've played in the area bar none. After this weather it'll be awful. The front nine is way too tight. Stupidly so as there is OOB about tem yards from the fairways on several holes.

The back nine is just plain boring and very squishy. The greens are terrible. All in all crap!

Never played there before but i found this review from another site from September last year:

"What a poor excuse for a Golf Course. The clubhouse leads you to think that maybe you have landed upon a real gem...how wrong can you be!

The course itself is built upon what can only be described as bricks and rubble and the grass barely covers it on several holes. Indeed, several shots literally flew in a 90 degree direction after hitting rocks and rubble in the middle of the fairway!...no exaggeration!!

The greens are absolutely shocking. Clearly not rolled, not cut and not cared for.

All in all, the members clearly deserve better than this. The pro and clubhouse members are very welcoming and accomodating but i can only imagine what they must think when they play other courses in the area and indeed what other visiting clubs make of such a course in comps etc.

The course needs a dramatic revamp...there are too many holes fitted into too tight a space. The area itself probably does have some potential but deary me, it really is a shocker."

Doesnt make for pretty reading to be honest!

Usually play Acanthus in Wakefield and The Village or Wike in Leeds depending who I play with.

Handicap is 28, not that I am a member anywhere. 104 at Wike is my best score but since improving my equipment and having a few lessons I'm confident the scores will be in the 90's this year.

I didnt know there was an Acanthus in Wakefield!! I know theres one at the side of the M62 South of Leeds.

Try Brandon golf course (think that might actually be related to The Village), thats a nice easy course to get you going.

Once you break 100 once, it'll be dead easy!

You can see Acanthus from the M62, think it may be classed as Leeds actually. There is a Jaf Jaf resteraunt and 20 bay driving range. The course is fairly short, which for my ability is great.

Have played Brandon a few times, but since they have extended it I'm not too keen. There are two holes that are L shaped which are weird.

Yeah i think it is classed as Leeds lol

With regards to brandon, i know what you mean, the new Par 5 is ridiculous. 170yd carry to the pond to lay up and give up any chance of going for the green in 2 or a 230yd carry to clear the water, only you then only have 30yds of fairway before you're on the next hole.

the other hole isnt too bad tho, the new par 4. its a decent drive to the right to give you a shot at the green.

Have you ever played South Leeds? thats a really nice course, not sure if you can play without a member though?

When this was two par threes I never hit either green in regulation, have played the par 4 twice and both times hit what was the original green from the tee and then hit thre green with my second shot!!!

Not played South Leeds.

Given lack of funds and ability Acanthus and Village are best bet at the minute!

I'll have to give Acanthus a try one day i think.

I havent lived in Leeds too long to be honest so still trying to find regular golf buddies apart from a few work mates and i've still only played a few courses in Leeds.

As i live right next to Templenewsam thats the course i've played most, decentish course for the £10 green fee!

I think Acanthus comes under the Tingley boundary and as such it will be classed as Wakefield.

If you want a knock, you're more than welcome at my track which is 15 mins form Acanthus.

I don't normally work Thursdays and won't be next week so if you fancy a trek over send me a pm.

That goes for the other guys too.

BTW course is mid Yorks near Pontefract and I think it is a tenner midweek when signed in by a member.

buggies are generally on but course has only just opened again after the white stuff and trollies have only just been allowed on so I would think a week of decent/dry weather and you should be ok
