Latte levy...

Will have to try using my own cup at a Costa Express machine at the garage where I pick mine up. Pretty sure they won't offer any discount though.

Checked in with the garage this morning, more than happy to use own cup. They don't currently discount the fee if your own cup is used, but they mentioned it was in discussion. Guess I'm taking my own travel mug from now on then.

On a side note, I do remember reading a sign in my local Costa just before Christmas that they are happy to recycle any and all coffe cups, regardless of origin.

I think where this falls down is many of the outlets are franchises and don't necessarily adopt central policies...

Which is how my son was refused a refill of his own mug [H+S being given as the reason] but invited to purchase one of their own brand re-useable mugs...

Well, charging for placky bags has made a marked difference to how many supermarkets are issuing and hence the stiff going to landfill....so makes sense on coffee cups too.

Time they went after bonkers packaging too.....
In the USA and Canada all supermarkets use strong paper bags/sacks. Eminently reusable and or recyclable. Why don't supermarkets here do the same?

When I see the amount of litter on Scottish road verges it always dismays me.

You then read a story about a group of folk spending hours picking up a handful of cotton wool buds on a beach.

Lord Tyrion....Thank you for the graciousness of you reply to my hot-headed sort of comments re misinformation in the publics minds.
(on a side note, the plastic we use all the time actually degrades due to the heat generated in landfill and not by U.V.exposure)
Love it at trade shows when the tree huggers come on to our stand and tell me that we are killing the world/blah/blah /blah.
When asked how they got to the show the answer is (invariably)a gas guzzling 4x4,their shoes are generally plastic deriviate as are their
briefcases,the buttons on their shirts,the belt they're wearing,their wallet etc,etc.(oh,the hypocrisy)
Rant over.
