Hi Guys, the voice recorder has stopped working on my Toshiba Satellite C 50-B-14D . Running on Windows 10 was previously working fine.
I suspect it might be something to do with one of the many recent Windows 10 updates .
Any ideas.
Merry Christmas

Whatever you do, don't turn it off and on again, it will blow up.
I may be wrong.
Try a system restore back to when it was working properly.
I have no idea what that means

I looked in sounds and devices but there's no mention anywhere about a voice recorder. I checked that both the mic and speakers were working.
I looked to download new drivers but wasn't sure which ones to download or from where.
As its not urgent I'll just take it to my computer guy on Monday.

Billy, voice recorder is just a programme that exists within Windows. It uses a nominated device to capture sound, whether that be a plug on mic on the line-in channel or an onboard mic.
It depends on you having the correct device enabled.

It's the on board mic I use, according to the test the mic seems to be working ok , I can see the sound level display go up and down when i speak or make a noise.
When I use to opened the recorder, on the left I would click on the Mic icon and it would start recording, showing a graph on the right page that it had started.
Now the mic icon just turns from blue to grey and nothing happens. and i can't access previous recordings in voice recorder.

Your previous voice recordings should be saved as individual files in a folder rather than in voice recorder itself. Voice Recorder is just an application. Is there a settings menu in VR that you can check to see if onboard mic is the selected input device?

I found the old files , forgot i'd moved them DOH !. The mic is switched on in the VR menu settings, tried trouble shooter. I'm not too cleaver with this techo stuff, I might need to buy a V-easy from Bob :D
Thanks Greig

Sounds like a driver issue, go to windows update and check recently installed see if any sound/mic drivers have been installed if so uninstall them, w10 is notorious for replacing drivers you might even have to go to the manufacturers webpage and manually install the drivers again to overwrite the windows version

Aye Chris I suspect it's to do with a recent update, but a bit too technical for me to tackle.
As you see It's still usable ATM, so I don't want to muck it up completely. Edit- I've just noticed that the onboard Cortana audio help option has disappeared too.
Thanks mate
all the best when it comes.
