Kobe Bryant - helicopter crash

This thread was blatantly one for condolences. So yes. Let people eulogise.

If you wanna slag him off, which for the record I don’t think is unfair. Find the right place to do it.
Go back and read what I said that prompted faux-outrage from Phil. It was measured.

I have already read it.

Like I said. Time and place.

You even lead with the harsh (but fair assessment). Neither the accusations or his skill have any relevance when simply wishing Well to someone who's died. With a family member also.

Have I said any of this to his family or friends? No, of course not. This is a medium where we can be almost certain that no one who will be impacted by his death will read it. It’s a forum for discussion and often that means disagreement. It doesn’t mean one side can claim moral superiority over something like this. It’s absolutely fair to take a measured approach when discussing someone like this.

If someone started a thread to mourn Jimmy Savile (nothing proven remember!) and I replied saying that I had loved his TV shows as a kid and therefore he was only a positive influence on my life, how do you think that would be received?

Nobody is raising a thread with rip Jimmy Saville. Maybe MJ would have been more comparable.

Imo It was only measured in that you knew it would get a response. I wish I'd just let it go.

I saw a story yesterday about a US journalist being suspended for tweeting about the allegations. Quite a bit of outrage about it apparently, the suspension not what she tweeted.

I saw they said she was suspended for breaching their policies which in that case I guess it’s fair enough but the content of what she said was completely valid.

She was reinstated pretty quickly, was a massive overreaction from the paper.

I personally don't get these sort of public grieving type threads, may be that's harsh?

No - I don't think it's harsh. We all deal with this sort of thing in our own way.

I heard of Nicholas Parson's passing and thought it was sad. But not in a grieving sort of way, just a compassion for those close to him - and in a reflective way on times past and others who have now gone - close to me and not so close. I find any death sad to one degree or another - even when others might not be bothered or indeed be quite glad...but in that same vein I don't grieve or overdo the emoting about the passing of someone I don't really know.

Nice tribute at the 16th at the Waste Management - flag is 24 yards on 8 in from the left , 24 and 8 on the flag and both numbers sprayed on the ground ?
