I have flown a few hundred hours in helicopters and always felt safe. Sometimes as a passenger but mainly as part of the crew. I've dangled from the winch on many an occasion and always felt safe.
These were always military helicopters so maybe there's the difference.
RiP Kobe, you will be missed by your family and fans.
