Had one about 15 years ago and it was the most painful 8 hours of my life. It seemed that whatever painkillers they gave me, they wouldn't work, even injections. I was retching so much it felt like my insides were being brought up.
Had to have a tube (ureteroscope) inserted through the old fella into the bladder and half a dozen hospital visits for the stone to be blasted with ultrasound before I eventually passed it. To be honest, after the tube was taken out it has never quite felt the same down there flow wise.
