Irrespective of what we think, there is a level of racism, homophobia, xenophobia in most sports. I am sure someone will challenge that statement. We wake up to it when it affects us or our team. If we do it, then it is swept under the chants of 'grow up', 'grow a pair' etc.

How would you feel if your team forfeits a playoff opportunity by walking off when abused by the opposition. The San Diego Legends just did that

I'm really in two minds on this walking off the pitch thing, particularly when it was done against abuse from fans. By all means you want to take a stand against it, but doesn't it also give ammunition to opposing fans when their team is losing to simple hurl some abuse and hope the team walks off and forfeits the match?? If teams are going to do this they need to be backed by the relevant football organisation/league. Given that this article says they're simply eliminated from the competition, then they obviously didn't get that backing.

But, the rest of the world could leave the bigots behind which would shame them even more.

BTW, bigotry (racism, homophobia etc.) is on show at football beyond Rangers and Celtic across Scotland.

Is it? I'm yet to hear another set of fans singing about being up to their knees.....

It was fantastic to see and hopefully more of it.

I’d particularly like to see teams reacting to the chants of their own fans in this way.

Superb to see such a show of solidarity to one of their team mates. Unfortunately the only way the message wil get across properly is if the club are now re-instated and the other club booted out of the competetion as punishment

Not sure that I agree with that, just think how you would feel if a team did that against a team you supported.
It will be interesting to see which way the league/association administrators jump.

I had a friend who walked off a golf course saying to his opponent that if he has to cheat to beat him he has no desire to play out the match or ever play in his company again.

The abuse was from another player on the opposition team.

There is no relevance between someone cheating in golf and a player abusing an opponent

How far have we really come from the monkey chants and banana throwing. It is still a massive problem in football in particular but you could argue across society. I admire teams that take a stand but surely it's down to the powers that be to stand up and be counted. We have seem UEFA issuing paltry fines or the odd match behind closed doors (before they all are these days) but have they actually done anything constructive. Could you argue the PL have done precious little to tackle the issue. We all know it's wrong but is there really an answer within football?

While this is a great piece of upholding values... i think it is a bit self harm if the leagues & FA dont do anything about it. Complacency has no place.

I would love the MSL step in and dock the opposite coach for not acting once the issue was raised. Get them to apologise. It was confirmed by the ref. Make an example somewhere.. But then no league is going to do something like that..
