Keepy-Uppys

I got to the stage of doing keepy upys with a golf ball and no club. Got quite good at landing the ball on the bck of me neck and keeping it there.

Seve claimed it improved touch and feel.

Can't be doing with them myself.

However, I remember someone asking Ian Harris (PGA Pro, West Middlesex GC, last century) how many he'd done. His reply was quite funny.

"I'd been doing them for well over an hour when I was forced to stop"...."someone actually came in the shop!"

I think we have heard enough from the 250 and trick shot crowd to warrant some videos, I put myself forward to be one of the judges in the...

(da dada daaaah) "GM golf forum keepy-uppy tricks and endurance you tube video annual mixed open championship"

OK I admit the name needs some work but I think its a good idea

I haven't ever actually tried to do these, queue going home tonight watching rubish TV with Wedge in hand and giving it a crack.

How do you do them with a driver though! The top is rounded slightly, thats another skill i'm going end up trying in the front room.

I use a 60 degree. My PB is well over 150. know how you feel about slow rounds. This year I have played very little and yet on the three or four rounds I have played have been held up! Great way of passing the time. Currently working on tricks to mix it up whilst waiting for the group ahead, just to keep it interesting. A skill I would rather not have aquired but since slow play is the only constant in the ever changing world of golf!

Use anything from a 7 to sand wedge - Its always good to pick up a conceded putt by flicking the ball up using an iron and bouncing the ball on it all the way to the next tee (gives your opponent something to think about!)

As a junior used to do tricks - through legs, round my back, off the shaft & grip switching hands and then firing the ball down the fairway on the volley!

What's the technique for flicking the ball up? I have managed it using the side of my foot tennis-style but am sure my coach retrieves balls flicking it up on the move, one bounce on the club and pop it goes into the bag!

Mind you I currently have ice on my wrist which started to hurt on the 16th today so think I may have overdone things!

I'm not the best describing things like this but here we go!

It's sort of a scooping action let the ball run up the face a little then flick it up one bounce and in the bag!

Definitely makes it easier to collect practice balls than bending over to pick them up.

Amanda

practice first on balls that are sat nicely in a nice grassy lie before moving on to the ones on a tight lie like a putting green.

Important skill to have if you want to look the part ;-) lol
