I wonder how Justin is being allowed to participate next year on the European Tour "following talks", it sets a precedent for others in future years. As far as I'm aware he hasn't been injured or had any personal circumstances preventing him fulfilling a committment he undertook when joining the European Tour, he just decided to play the PGA Tour more regularly chasing the Fedex.

Justin Rose - European Tour

May sound harsh, but I'd enforce the rule.

It's not as if he just missed the required number of events, he only managed half of them. If his world ranking was higher he'd have made it into all the WGC events no problem. Trouble was he didn't play well early season and his ranking suffered. A brief spell mid-summer was too late.

Don't think they should make special case of this one. He didn't fulfil obl;igations, he resigned. Rules say 2 year ban.

Bet he wants to play in next Ryder Cup though ! ;)

It smacks purely of jealousy for missing out and wanting to do the bear minimum to make the qualifying criteria (i.e. be a member of the European Tour). Strange how this niggling wrist injury never surfaced while he was in the playoffs.

I use to like Rose and admired him for the way he bounced back having turned pro and for getting a tour win in the states but I'm sorry this has put me off him completely and smacks of someone trying to buck the system for their own need. I also blame the tour for being way too lenient. If it had been a lesser name then it would have been the statutory 24 months no questions asked. Bad show all round

Funny how rules can be changed for some people. He made his bed in the States so let him lie in it.
As someone else said, Its all down to money.
He just wasn't good enough to get on team Europe.....

I think there is more to this wrist injury than we know, and obviously the European tour people have been keeping an eye on him.

Luke Donald also kept his card when his wrist was injured.

Maybe JustOne can get a tour card too. Clearly he has the wrists for it.

At the end of the day, Justin Rose needs the European Tour and the European Tour needs Justin Rose. So it seems a sensible compromise.

Golf is a world sport now and it's time for these archaic rules regarding membership to be stripped away. No-one wins if you start forcing players to choose between tours.

Its obvious that he went to america chasing money and stopped supporting the european tour that helped launch him to stardom.Giving him special treatment will surely open the door for others to abuse the system.

I am a big Justin Rose fan and I will enjoy watching him play on the European tour next year.
I think he probably felt that he had a great year in the states and by bringing this form back to Europe could be a success for him.
We of course never know if their is family reasons for him coming back to the European tour, ie wife and child nearer to respective families.
Good luck next season Justin.

I don't see the same thread on GMAC going the other way, I would think GMAC is going the other way for the $'s and what's wrong with that.

I'm with HRC99, being a global sport with comps around the world, they should perhaps look at the idea of creating a "global tour" i.e. providing a player is a member of either tour (US/ European, or even Asian), they can compete on any tour. Now I don't know what the effects of doing that are, and obviously there would still have to be qualification status etc. but it seems like a logical way to go.

Like golf he knows the rules before he starts, if he ain't gonna follow them he should get punnished, unless he has a solid reason if its injury then thats for the tour to decide.

I used to think he came across as a bit of a dick but was basically a good egg.

Over the years, I've come to thinking that he is actually just a bit of a dick.

Didn't qualify, shouldn't be allowed to play. It really is that simple. And yes, this would apply regardless of who it was for me.

He is now taking a tour place away from someone at the bottom end of the ladder, so what message does it send at that end of the game?

"Sorry boys, but there's a different set of rules for those who have already made a shedload of cash out of the game, you just bugger off back to the Challenge tour for your £10k winning cheques."

Not right or fair and also sends the wrong message from the European Tour to the PGA.

I thought Rose was a decent fella, it seems I was wrong and glad Monty didnt pick the knob. I wouldnt pay to watch someone in the Ryder cup who can't even be bothered to complete 75% of comps needed on the Euro tour.

He should be banned for two years without question. The Euro tour doesnt need him one bit, he has brought nothing to the table for the past two seasons and then just made up the numbers and had a relaxing weekend with the family.

Shows how bent the R&A are, even Seve knew this.

I can't see what the problem is. Justin has a bad wrist and may feel it unwise to play 6 straight weeks and risk a serious injury. He was trying to play in the right events to get into the World Top 50 to get into the big events, as the Rankings are biased towards the US Tour events because they have stronger fields then his best chances are there. Also, he can only play in other events away from the US Tour with permission from that Tour which may not be forthcoming. As was the case in the run-up to the Ryder Cup. Rose, Casey and co were not allowed to enter the event at Gleneagles due to clashing with the Fed Ex Playoffs.
He has said that he will play more than 12 tournaments next year. He would get starts in most European events next year anyway as a sponsors invite, 2 US Tour wins this year and his World Ranking position would get him in.
