Julian Assange

If there is one country in Europe that will put two fingers up to the Americans it is Sweden. They refused point blank to hand over american citizens who were wanted because they refused to be called up to serve in Vietnam. The Swedes do not like to be dictated to by anyone so to assume that they will hand over this creep is like assuming that Ecuador is a paragon of free speech.
 
is he british!!!! then send the creep back to face the charges if another country decides to give him to the yanks so be it,fed up of these namby pamby types,seems he's not man enough to stand by his own stories and is now hiding behind some tinpot flag of convenience,send the ecuadorian staff home and the slimy rat will have nowhere to hide,and why did the bbc and sky news give this spineless alleged rapist all that airtime yesterday????

I hear its been discussed about that they are going to give him Ecuadorian citizinship if they cant find a suitable solution , then he gets a job in the embassy & he will have diplomatic immunity .. he can leave the embassy in an offical car & they cant touch him ..

Couldn't do that Blade.

Under Article 9 of the Vienna convention on dimlomatic relations the host nation may at any time and for any reason declare a particular member of the diplomatic staff to be persona non grata. The sending state must recall this person within a reasonable period of time, or otherwise this person may lose their diplomatic immunity.

What a constitues a "reasonable amount of time" is open to interpretation.

Also. Article 31.1c Actions not covered by diplomatic immunity: professional activity outside diplomat's official functions.

Unless they nationalize Wikileaks or it's "taken down", this can't happen either. He would have to have, as you say, am official position within the embassy. Does anyone really think he'd go for that given the inflated opinion he has of himself?

Sorry Gareth i meant he could leave the embassy in a state car & leave the country for Ecuador & they couldnt touch him as the car is considered the same as the embassy , i didnt mean he could just resume life outside the embassy in the UK .. they are saying right now if he leaves the embassy he will be arrested & sent to Sweden ,


Maybe this is not possible either , i wouldnt know a whole lot about it been honest , just repeating what id heard ...

I get you.

What I can't understand is why the government has allowed themselves and the situation to get to the level it has.

Surely he would have been considered "At risk" of absconding while on bail, so why release him in the first place?

I was presuming if Ireland have their own Jet the ecuadorians do ...oh and he would go from the car to the jet & leave ..

Life in Ecuador probably with your bank accounts in europe & Usa frozen .. or life in jail... tough call realy

I see that those that stood bail for Mr Assange have until November 6th to hand over their share of his bail money...

Don't think he ever had any intention of handing himself into any authority... Hopefully those that will be handing over their money can afford it...

If they were so supportive of Assange, paying out the bail money is what they should be made to do and really shows Assange for what he is, after all, the setting of bail is an honour agreement between the person charged and those putting up the money and by defaulting sums up the man!
