So I'm thinking of joining my local club and have asked them about costs of junior membership and what I would get for it... its 135 pounds for a full membership, so no green fees get a handicap etc etc, then for an extra tenner I can play in junior medals, stablefords etc so chances to get cut :D and on top of that if I want I can have a lesson every saturday morning for a fiver :D so is this a good deal?

Sounds good to me, also the fact that they are offering you junior coaching suggests that its a forward thinking club and will encourage juniors.

If it's a club and course you like then signed up, sounds like a good deal to me. I think my course is £180 for juniors but couldn't tell you about the lessons, they do run a group course for 11 weeks at £36 which my daughter is joining when the new one starts!

sounds like a good deal, my children are a member of a club that charges £180 a year but that includes free group lessons and no charge for comps.
I think in the end they all roughly work out the same sort of money.
All depending on how old you are and what sort of standard as well, you may want to ask what their policy is with regards to juniors entry adult comps, as some clubs are not so keen.

Yes, sounds about right. My 12 year old pays (rather, I pay) £70 then from 16 it goes to roughly what you say. Don't forget included in this will be the things that stay with you forever, when I was a junior things like etiquette and the finer understandings of this game were instilled in me but the greatest benefit for me is the friendships I formed that last to this day. Also not as if you're paying for it, is it :D

Unfotunately my parents don't share the same view... their response to me asking if I could join was "yeah sure, you've got the money right?" :( Ahh well, whats the point having money if you don't spend it :D I'm going down there later in the week so I'll have a chat with someone about how I can get my 3 cards in etc etc, I had a look on their website and it says although they run junior comps they will encourage us as much as possible to play in adult ones as it "will be beneficial" for experience etc

You're lucky. Only two golf courses in my area are very expensive. 350 for junior and you have to be interviewed and recommended by 3 members to join! And it's 1 pound for 30 range balls :(

1 pound for 30, thats good, 2 pound for 60 and 3 pound for 90.

Here (and this is cheap) its 2.40 for 50.

I know but most clubs usually give free range balls if you are a member. There is one that's about 20 mins from me and dies it, but again its very expensive

I have yet to go to a club and get free range balls, it is another way to add income to the club so you will pay for them.
