Iron recommendations

Just to give you a difference of opinion...

There's something lovely about unwrapping each one of your brand new lovely never used before clubs from the box, and taking them down the driving range and taking that first swing with each club. I do understand where the guys talking about second hand come from, but I think as a young guy with a bit of help from your parents, maybe the experience of brand new clubs is something you should consider!!

What really peeves me about that would be putting the first scratches on them......and then watch them depreciate after every shot!

You'll get a good set of Ping i15's for less than that money.

i15s...++++++1

What sort of iron would people class the i15s as? Im leaning towards new over second hand at the moment although if my pro gets a second hand set in that I get on well with then I won't rule them out.
Another set I hadn't considered, Wilson staff ci9/ci11? Are these better player clubs or just got a smaller cavity than the di range?

They are stainless steel cast club which I think are very good clubs for an improving golfer....very forgiving but still have a very nice trajectory and feel on a well struck shot. I have just upgraded to the i20s and there is very little difference imo. They have quite a thin top line and have a progressive offset towards the 3 iron, but not a lot. Ping will set the loft and lies for you for the cost of the postage so no worries there. I think they represent excellent VFM but Ping are the sort of club that you either love them or hate them. Make sure you get them with the right shaft that suits your swing.

Thanks seochris, only problem is I'm not sure where the closest ping dealer is that would do fittings (not sure I want to trust AG) but will definitely have a look, so far the list to try is:

Wilson staff di9 and di11
Callaway x22
Mizuno jpx800
Ping i15
Nike vr cavities
Cleveland cg16
Wilson staff ci9/ci11

Looks like I'm gonna have some serious testing to do! :)
