After seeing the video of my swing last week, I had a pm from James. Now I'm aware that some will be shaking their heads at this point, but bear with me.

So I spent a few hours with James on the range at the golf club. As you'd probably guess he went through some of the S&T principles, ball flight laws etc.

I won't bore you with the details, it's been covered elsewhere on here. But all I'll say is that my ball flight is much more predictable, my dispersion cone is much tighter, and I feel much more confident that the ball will go where I want it to. It's early days yet, but if I stick at it, we'll see where it takes me.

What I do find amazing, is that after a few hours, I've made some drastic improvements. Yet after lessons I've had before, I've never seen such a dramatic improvememt. I just have to work at it, and hope I can transfer it to the course.

If you struggle with consistency, I'd consider taking a look at elements of the S&T. But I would also suggest having someone guide you through it. If James wasn't there I would have got it all wrong! Using video footage from last week and today was also useful.

It might not be for everyone, but if you've plateaud and struggling to find any sort of consistency it might be worth a look.

The advantage of it is, is that there is a lot less going on with the swing and the movement than in a traditional swing. I'm no expert, by a long way, but if there's less to do and less to think about, there's less to go wrong.

I'm the biggest cynic around normally, but I went with an open mind today. After-all, what did I have to lose at the moment.

I won't say that I'm an S&T convert yet, despite my words above. But I will give it some time to bed in and see what happens on the course.

We won't talk about where my car is tonight! As I'm sure James will enjoy telling that particular story.

James currently has the video, and is probably best placed to do a side by side video stills analysis of what the differences are. I'm to new to it to feel comfortable talking through it with someone else in that detail. If that makes any sense.

As for the car it's stuck on the grass in deep sh*t mud near the fouth fairway!

Yeah, come on James, what about this car? :) :D

It's a long 'golfing story' that I'll be telling at the 19th hole for many, many, MANY years to come...

but in summary....

We left the range at 6pm and the place was deserted, got to the gates only to find them chained shut! We turned around to go back to the 'golf course owners house' which is near the clubhouse but Graham decided he wanted to drive across the fairway to get there.. only to get completely pig stuck wheel spinning 2ft deep in the semi :D

Well that's how I saw it :D

His car is still there now waiting to be pulled out by the green keepers in the morning! The miserable old 'early bird' members be surely disappointed to see that Graham beat them to the course! :D

I'm interested in this and I'm thinking of giving it a look but I'm worried that I could be doing it incorrectly. If I bought the book could I go far wrong? Also what is likely to go wrong?
Cheers

When you get a chance, would be good to see a new video of your swing and let us know what you feel to be the differences.

I can't describe what Graham feels.. he'll have to do that :)

Graham warmed up by thinning a dozen balls in a row, jumping out of shots, flipping his hands and looking pretty disgusted with himself.... and so it was down to business :)

We discussed some stuff and went through his swing on video and started hitting some balls.

Here's a swing sequence from later on in the day.... once he got STACKED! :D

grahamsequence.gif

There's some things I like... head stays over the ball, right hip turns behind, swing compresses into the ground, head goes down, eyes don't come off the ball, GREAT shoulder turn, (Hogan's right leg!!!) straight left arm, springs up as left leg straightens, goes left through the ball, club head doesn't pass the hands at impact, nice comfortable finish... and of course there's some ingrained things that are not quite right that we can sort out if Graham wishes.

For someone who started the day practically unable to hit the ball he did incredibly well... especially considering how physically challenged he is! :D ;) LOL

..and he probably hit more push-draws in 3 hours than he has done in 30 years!

It was a really enjoyable day, Graham was great company.

all looking good except one thing. Does anyone else get the impression them dodgey brown trousers are a family air loom.

:D :D :D :D

looking good hopeless, stick at it.

As to thequestion of how it felt.

Very strange indeed. Especially as James had me doing the moves in a very exagerated way. So much so that when demoing the downswing, and I mean 'down', he hit the mat with such a force that it bent his 9 iron shaft!

The feeling almost felt as though I was trying to reverse pivot, but not, if that makes any sense. The pic sequence on the take away looks very awkward, and tbh, it felt awkward to start of with. James video about saying to his friend that he posted on here is very accurate about the mechanics of what he was trying to show me. More importantly, there is no 'tilt' towards the target.

In the first hour or so, I was concerned about where the power comes from with this swing, but I need'nt have worried, it comes with practice and the correct move on the follow through.

I don't ache as much as I thought I would after yesterday, as it brought muscles into play that haven't been used for a long time, and the number of balls that I hit.

It's good to exaggerate changes at first to make it easier and quicker to get used to them.

If you don't mind, would you keep us informed on how you get on and how you feel your game is progressing. I'd like to know how it goes.

I hope the 9 iron makes a quick and full recovery.....

hope you repaired the tyre marks on the course.

Cant believe you drove your car over the golf course! If it was my course and some diddy got his car stuck in the course I would raging.

Not very good oncourse behaviour in my opinion.

Glad your hitting the ball better and hope that continues.

It's now parked behind the bar in the clubhouse, just between the H2O's and the orange juice :)

I hope the 9 iron makes a quick and full recovery.....

I whacked it on ther floor a few times to bend it back, seemed to do the trick although it looks a bit more lofted now and aims a little further to the right
