Inexpensive(!) Laptop Help

Does THIS look OK to people with a bit of IT knowledge?

I need a fairly basic laptop for my ex-wife and 7 year old son so I can get my laptop back from them.

Thank you

Looks a bit fancy to me.
Dual Core 4GB RAM 500GB HDD isn't basic as far as I know.
Fragger's your man :)

Well currently the Celeron processors are the cheap old style so do not expect power to run lots of programs etc.

It would be good for using office for most tasks, playing simple browser or casual games and browsing the net.

It would not be great for high power requirement programs, video and photo editing, most games and running multiple progams.

I would not pay more than 250 for that setup in a laptop, 270 is probably asking a tad too much without some thing to sweeten the deal, like some extras included.

I think I read it had office 2010 and windows 7... therefore actually it looks a bit more good value :D

I am sure others agree?

I have an acer, never had any problems. Normally I would say buyng electronic equipment from ebay could be risky, but having checked the seller there will be no problems. Bought from that company a few times and always had good service

Fraggers on the case

Buy Cheap...Buy Twice

The lappy in the op isnt bad at all for that price

The RAM and Hard Drive are what you would expect from a lappy costing another 200 more

However the CPu is very basic and will definately start to slow up after a year or so., and you will just have to live with that

Dont buy that ACER with the Celeron CPU
I hate Celerons almost as much as I hate AOL , Hopeless

A much better purchase is this http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-15r-n5110/fs

Yes its £479, But is has the 2nd Generation Intel I3 CPU and therefore it flies by comparison to the others.

4Gb RAM and a 500Gb hard drive make it very sweet

also comes with 15 months of McAfee Internet Security and a starter version of Office 2010, which gives you Word & Excel

this lappy should last you 5 years
the other one will be lucky to last 3

Appreciate that, to put in context why I'm going for cheap:

I bought a laptop about a year ago, it's s**thot. top of the range, great screen and software for my photography.

6 weeks ago my wife and I seperated, I left the laptop as my 7 year old uses it.

Want cheap and cheerful for them to use so I can have mine back.

Don't care if it lasts three or five years!!!

Gibbo, that notebook would actually be slower than the OP model quoted. that cpu is closer to a celeron 1.9 and is more expensive.

Spoff, go with the one you linked, itll be fine plus it has a years warranty at least should anything fail.
