I am considering in investing in an indoor putting mat for practising in the house.

Has anyone got one of these? Are they any use? Which is the best model/ make to go for?

Thanks again.

An expert! - great forum this!

Just carpet.

Was looking for something which would be of most benefit and assist in getting a feel for the right length of putt (something I struggle with).

Cheers

None of the ones I have tried work any better than a short pile carpet.

Round drink coasters work quite well as "holes" and the small edge works quite well as if you hit the ball too soft it doesn't go up the ridge. It's good to hit putts firmly enough to go a little past the cup if they don't drop.

I'm not sure about the 'expert' bit though! :D

Depending on the type of carpet, ie. short close tufts etc, but if it is, then it's okay to use. (It's what I do). Originally I just placed a coffee mug on the floor or a line of string and just practiced putting to that distence, and changed the length of putt occasionally.

I did then grab an auto putt returner, rather than a mat as my carpet isn't much different.

But if it's just length and not accuracy, a small length of string would surfice. Nothing fancy. It's no different to the method used on the practice green of putting from the green to the fringe to get the length and speed sorted.

Damn. Did I really say that!

What you need is a putting mat, a V-Easy to help with the stroke, a Pathfinder to create the correct swing path, ........................................... :D

I have one. As I have exposed boards, I had to stick it to a piece of hard board. To me, any of them are ok. I don't think it will give you any feel though. What it does do is give the confidence to bang in the short ones.

Thanks for the hints there - I will give the old string trick a try!!

Cheers.

I got a putting mat that fits around the lavvy so I can practice while I drop the kids off at the pool.

Not all that realistic unless your putting stance resembles the fabled 'French lavatory squat'.

Fun none-the-less.

;)

I wouldn't bother if I were you. Your time would be better spent on the practice green at the club. If you are not a member of a club, if you ask the Pro or Secretary/Manager at your local club if you could use their practice putting facility, then I am sure they will look upon this favourably, in the hope that you may one day join the club. Nothing is better than practising on the green stuff.

I got a fairly cheapo one off of ebay, £10 deliverd I think.

Holing 100 4footers is excellent for grooving a stroke if you can't get to the practice green for any length of time.

If you got carpet then that is more than enough, unless it's a shag pile.

I just use the pathfinder (acquired from HH - happy birthday btw) and use the carpet. All I'm trying to do is build a repetitive stroke and so not fussed too much on any great pace. I can work on that on the putting green once it stops raining

Carpet is fine, putting requires a feel for different surfaces, drills over different distance puts will do more good in developing feel than splashing out on putting mat.

me thinks what he thinks.

I do 20 mins 3 times a week. Works for me. I find the pathetic green strip allows me to actually take it more seriously than putting across the lounge....so, yes, buy one and sort out your 3-6 footers.

Not as good as the real club green, but I'm not going to pop down there at 9 pm, am I?
