Ok after my last post of driver 5i and PW distance I can live with the PW and 5i but how can I increase Driver distance from 200 yrds is and that includes roll.....no i DO NOT want 300 yrds but maybe 215 and 220.

Any ideas why the distance with my driver is way down? :D

I am getting rid of a nasty slice and turning it in to a natural fade :D

I have used 3 different drivers all with the same result at the moment Im unsing an MD superstrong reg shaft with 10.5 degree loft and very happy with it.

Good shot starts left and comes back to center and Im pretty consistent with that now....bad shot starts right goes right keeps going right and either hits a tree or keeps going right...u know the shot I mean

Quickest way to gain yards, going from what you have said, is to hit from the inside and try and get a little draw. Try hitting a few shots with a closed stance this should help.

I have thought of that but only just managed to find a natural fade lol

may give it a few shots

My opinion is that you might do better with a different loft driver. I hit a 12 degree far better than a 10.5 and even take out a 13 now and again. It's all about maximising with the swing you've got....or get better :D

I played with a chap t'other day who was raving about his Ping G10 10.5 V2 reg. His drives weren't going as far as mine and Ping said he was borderline reg/stiff.

I'm not saying you should, but don't rule it out.

I got up to 230-240 average in the late 90s with a great big bertha 12 degree. 230+ is unusual for me these days but then again, I use a square driver for reliability over distance.

Why don't you want 300 yards? Surely everyone would take 300 yards if they could?

What I have learned from improving my swing speed:
Sounds like you are turning your hips too soon instead of weight shifting. Take a full backswing, then hold. Turn your hips and notice how your shoulders have also turned, thus causing the outside to in path. This is my biggest fault and occurs when I get tired. To counter, you have to experience the weight shift. At the top of the swing pull all your weight to your left side aas if sitting in to it. Your shoulders should now follow into a dropped and inside position.

Overall, I learned a lot just from standing and swinging the club, looking at the swing speed radar and listening to the swish. What I do is this: Take a full swing and follow through all the way. Carry on as part of one movement and take the club all the way back to the backwswing position and repeat - like a playground swing going backwards and forward. Don't stop at any point. Now, as you do this, try increasing the speed, listening for the swish. You'll understand pretty quickly how fast it IS possible to swing the club, and you'll get yourself into a natural rhythm.

Hope this helps.

My problem is I like the driver I have as I can hit it straighter than others I have tried but that could be because I am learning to swing better...

I dont wanna sacrifice accuracy for distance. May play around with some other lofts that I can get my hands on though.

Thanks for the advice Timgolfy but my swing and religion are not consistent enough for miracles :o

The difference is he plays on a proper course and lives in the real world. Why would he want to try and hit that far and exaggerate a flaw he's already recognised.

My simple advice would be to get a driver lesson from your pro. Get the set up right, let him look at your driver(s) and their specs and see what advice he gives in terms of the swing and the gear

Have you considered that in learning to hit the ball longer a swing may actually improve?

No, probably not. That's why you'll never be a Cat I player. You have a closed mind.

Homer are you saying my fade is a flaw (looks for angry smiley) ;)

Yeah I suppose the lesson with a pro is the best option ....its taken me a good few range sessions to reduce the amount I slice the driver after a lesson with the pro....just aint got the golf balls to take another step back first after a lesson :o

You make me smile.

I just want to hit a 220 yrd drive .....love my day job to much to get paid to play golf

Fade will alway cost you yards but saying that having a good controled fade is a very safe shot.. if you can minimise the fade or hit it straighter youl natrualy gain yards , maybe even get you up to 220... aquire a draw & youl hit it further even still

Been there done that. My argument is that according to you speed is everything. Well for some they may not be supple enough and for many speed kills in terms of technique. A lesson with a pro, sort the flaws out and get the kit checked over is a much better long term fix.

I have heard a draw goes further and tried searching for this but there appears to be no definitive answer as to why :D

Here, Here.

Speed kills, I've seen the adverts.

Absolutely not. It didn't seem to do Monty too much harm and a controlled fade is a great stock shot. It is when it begins to become more than that that the problems start. Also, a fade is never going to give you extra distance unless you think about a higher loft as RGDave suggests so you get more carry.
