I guess if your butcher was a fantastic plumber (but didn't want to do it for a living) then YES you might.

You wouldn't really though and if I did I wouldn't trust his opinion one little bit without knowledge that he was actually qualified in what he was preaching and hadn't just decided he was a professional himself due to some magazines or books he had read and thought he had understood.

Section should be called- 'Ask the Forum'

There is only 1 person officially qualified to answer in that section afaik on the forum (Jason Dransfield is the other but rarely here now), I think people know that and are just soliciting opinions, advice and affirmation from knowledgeable and well meaning amateurs who might have had a recent lesson about a similar issue, or can point someone in the right direction.

I give advice to people who ask for it, I dont force it on them, I just try to use my knowledge to help others to bypass the learning curve I had. Should the section be called "Ask Bob" and out of bounds to everyone else? If thats what you think then maybe you need to discuss it with the people from GM.

The advice I give (when asked) is based on good practice and logic. Without blowing my own trumpet I know a lot about the golf swing and the science of golf ball ballistics and am quite happy to share that with others.

When I give advice it tends to be directed at the question posed and not as an attempt to disrespect the opinions and advice of others. The biggest problem with this Forum and just about all the others is that people seem to have a need to disrespect the help others give and it's this that drags down the discussion and creates confusion.

I have asked for advice on here and Socket and others took the time to read my posts and then replied. Its up to me if I take their advice. When my daughter was at school and wanted help with homework, I tried to help. I am not a mathematician nor am I qualified to a Masters standard. My experiences gave me knowledge to help her. According to the gospel of Dodger I should have ignorned her request for help.

Well said, i agree 100% with this and its people like Socketrocket that makes the Forum great and why i stay

Also because Bob is hovering nearby to add some excellent tuition too

I'm the worst for asking and not having a swing video BUT think the section is an excellent place to go when things go awry (as they do) or for some tips on drills etc. I have only ever received genuine advice given for all the right reasons and am amazed how much time others are prepared to give freely on that part of the forum. If I run with some advice and it doesn't work for me then I can't really see I've lost anything as I would have been asking as I needed something to try.

Yes there are a handful of members who I am likely to listen to more than others but in the main they are the ones who always reply and with the knowledge/ideas and prepared to always try and help. I haven't a clue what their handicaps are!

So a big :thup: from me for that part of the forum and those that think it's a waste of time just don't need to bother with it and any posts about it surely???

Wasn't this originally set up as the GM top 25 pros were going to come on at regular intervals and answer swing questions and give advice. Seems to have died a death a long time ago and apart from Bob and maybe a couple of other pros, there hasn't been sight or sound of a top 25 GM pro in years
