• Thank you all very much for sharing your time with us in 2025. We hope you all have a safe and happy 2026!

if you had enough money would you buy

Only if I Won some stupid large amount!! Otherwise I don't think it would work!!

Comps wise no idea just the normal stuff good mix of stableford and stroke play.

Probably not. Been a lot of press locally about courses losing money, 40k a year has been mentioned. Furthermore the Norfolk course on that website has just been sold for agricultural land!!

But yes, in a fantasy world I would love my own course!!!

Cant believe Blacknest and Gatton Manor are up for sale according to that. I love the idea of owning a course but in reality I can see it being a real headache especially if you want to have a degree of hands on involvement. Having seen it done (not always well) where HID use to work I imagine whether you made it private (exclusive like Swinley or milllionairre golf for mates) a private members club or benevolantly bought it for the golfing public near and far there will always be complaints.

In an ideal world I'd love to own it, have enough money to pay good salary's to top people to run it as smoothly as possible on and off the course and hopefully see a small windfall on my investment each year.

No chance, I'd just buy my way into a few courses of my choice!

Blacknest is just up the road from me, and has just sold after being on the market for a few years. Think it has been bought for development, as the course is not the best and at this time of the year is usually like a bog. Have a feeling we will be picking up even more of their members over the next year.

i wouldnt want a course, run wrongly you could lose hundreds of thousands of pounds very quickly, id possibly buy shares in a larger company that owned multiple courses, but i definately would not buy one outright.

Looked on that site a few times before, I'd definitely buy one if I could afford it. Some seem amazingly cheap (if you can call it that)... eg:

"18 hole, 5,734 yard par 69, golf course set in c.138 acres. Purpose designed clubhouse, green keeping building and a pair of semi-detached cottages......"

.... 2 cottages??? blimey AND a golf course thrown in for only 450K, bargain!!!

If I was loaded, I would buy one like a shot - imagine being able to afford to own somewhere really good and be able to spend whatever is needed to make it even better! Dream time!

I would love to own a course. There is still money to made from a golf course as long as it is run correctly and offers a fantastic standard of playing experience. Too many clubs have let the standard of the course slip so not many visitors and loosing members to better courses.

I would make sure I purchased a club that had room for development. Put up a good quality driving range at reasonable prices. Make a a good quality 9 hole par 3 course. Spend the money having 18 new greens built to the highest spec so no matter what the conditions are the greens will be fantastic. Build a hotel on it also so you could have room for conferences. Have a golf discount shop like Direct Golf onsite and get a good young pro with great ideas and experience to run it. But hey that is if I had a load of money to set all of this up as borrowing the money to do it would be suicidal.....;)

Oh yes I forgot to add also one thing.....no handicap certificate no entry simple as that!!!!!
