If Strictly did golf...

She wasn’t down to earth enough to win the public either.. her end video was all about my mums come to see me

Stacey humbly praising her partner saying he’s such a nice guy

Arrogance cost her.
Not to worry.
Just a bit of fun not to be taken too serious.
Plus Ashley is fit🤤

Always like Stacey Dooley, lovely person, lovely voice, great broadcaster and if she continues to show her camel toe on live Saturday night tele, she's going to go far.

Okay, it would never happen as would never have the viewing figures.

Apart from Darcey's voice, I can watch a bit of it now and then as harmless Saturday evening t.v. , think there are a few fans on here.

As far as I can see, some beginners, or virtual beginners quite regularly after 13 or so weeks of intensive training with a professional can then be scoring perfect scores by the end.

Could imagine they may soften the scoring compared to how they score professionals, but even so the judges comment on the non-pros being close to the pros.

If this was golf instead, even allowing for the odd 'natural' I can't imagine a comparable progression in that timeline.

What does the forum think?
(It has been a cold, miserable day 🙂)

It would be interesting, but a lot of the dancing is in the presentation with a live band, professional costumes, pro partner and choreographers.

Also, unlike golf, most people watching the dancing won't really know if someone is actually doing something wrong.

With golf, if you make an 8, then there's not really much doubt that you've hit 3 or 4 bad shots.

AND... my impression is that a LOT of the people who do quite well on Strictly are pop-stars who have had quite a lot of professional training / choreographing. Likewise, most actors will have had a bit of training and / or worked in musicals with dance requirements.

However... I reckon you could take a 15 handicapper and with 13 weeks of dedicated coaching / training/ practice get them round a course in level par. It wouldn't be with everyone, and you'd need to pick from a wide selection of 15 handicappers to assess who would be suitable.

They would need to be people who can handle a bit of pressure AND probably have them going round with a coach to talk them through everything and give them a few lines.

Or alternatively... maybe get 2 already decent handicap players - train them up over 3 months and they get to play better ball or scramble with a tour pro for a cash prize.

That is possibly a more interesting format for TV, but would obviously be crucial to get the right set up as a Tour Pro is going to go birdie daft on a course that amateurs would have a chance of scoring round.

Impossible to take a strictly format and apply it golf. However so pleased Stacey Dooley won as an absolute dance beginner. I guess the BBC have an issue each year trying to fill the spots and so maybe have to look at pop stars and others that have danced. I'd like to see it as a level playing field though with none of them having any previous experience.

If there was a way to make a strictly style golf show who would you have as the judges?

Best dancer, Faye, no doubt.

Worthy winner, Stacey Dooley.

It's not just about the dancing. It just isn't.

Applied to golf? No. Don't go there. It would be a minority prog at best.

Listening to my wife and mum in law nattering about this, if there was a golf equivalent, the final would have been between 2 folk who had not touched a club in their lives before appearing, and two former winners of the Amateur Championship and the Challenge Tour Order of Merit!! ;)

In which one of those that have never touched a club would win. As 'very good person gets a bit better' is never going to resonate as much with the public as 'rank amateur, although not quite a good as others at the end, is still very good and has made huge improvements'.

As mentioned, dance is scored subjectively by judges (within parameters) - golf is, well you know!, numerical. The point is that should two formers "singers and dancers" enter a dance comp again a TV Presenter, a Doctor and Cricketers etc? The public vote suggests not!

I dont mind either way, I was sitting in the kitchen watching some paint dry!

Never seen an episode but I get what it’s about & I don’t really think they’re being challenged enough

Fine let them dance off for the 1st week or the final but better to get them Strictly doing other stuff through the series, like week 2 Strictly come make me a coffee table then Strictly sheer a sheep, Strictly perform minor eye surgery, Strictly do a lap in a reasonably priced car & Strictly get off yer bum & make me a Steak Pie

(they should still wear sparkly clothes throughout to add a bit of ‘showbiz’)
