So I have permission to convert one of our rooms to a ‘study’ and home office. It’s about 3m x 3.5m and window on one side and a door on the corner of the opposite wall. I will draw a pic later. It will have 2 sit/stand desks with dual monitors on the window side; some closed shelving on one side to hide all the usual Rubbish. Bookshelves to have tons of books. Potential a small sofa for a Power Nap.

Looking for inspiration. I was going to go for some dark wall to give it a posh look - old school study/gentleman’s club, some painting etc. but colleagues with dark home office say that it can get gloomy if you don’t have sufficient lighting.

Open to suggestion and ideas of dream home office/study

It’s down to personal preference. I had a decent home office for around 20 years across 4 house moves. I preferred lighter woods - I found dark woods very gloomy and uninviting in winter. I had my desk side on to the window in the last two, which I very much preferred - less time looking out of the windows. I put a 2 seater sofa and occasional table for coffee cups in the last one, which was great for sitting reading wordy documents.

For pictures I actually went for company photos, manufacturing and onsite. I wanted a subconscious reminder that I was at work.

i love a dark walnut type table - not sure why. I am torn between going dark colour v light colour. Subconsciously i think i m more scandi, but i have never had a old school dark whiskey bar look.
Previously i had a table under the window and you are right, i think i spent more time looking out. Nowadays i m more side on and stare at a bare wall, but have to look to my right to look out.

I binned the usual office furniture you get from Ikea and went to an office reclaim site to get a proper 'office' desk. Wider, sturdier and more comfortable... it handles my four screens :)

Good chair and a footrest too are a must.

I have a sit/stand desk from Secret Labs... It is built like a tank... so can take multiple screens. I have 2 (24') + 1 (laptop) screens ... The desk is generally ok but it lacks a drawer. not sure how they can make desks without drawers.

Don’t skimp on the desk. Get a proper one and if you have the room get as large as you can afford. You can never have a big enough desk when you start putting things like printers on it.

we have a printer but it is not used 24/7. So it now sits inside one of the (ikea) cupboards that we use for storage. Had to cut the back of the cupboard in order to ensure it would fit there. Now it is hidden away. Completly agree on desk size. Also I would loved to have more depth, since I use multiple monitors it would have been good to push it back another 10 cm

Got an order in for a custom desk and they want it big. 80 deep and 190 long.

Guy says he’s a trader and needs it to fit 4 screens plus another 2 on arms above. Slide out shelves for printer and an amplifier, then 3 deep drawers. Should be a challenge.

Wow!! Love it.. 190 is big, but will just accommodate 4 side by side monitors on an arm. 80 is the depth I would like to. Mine is about 70 deep but only about 60 is usable as 10 is part of the cable management.

out of interest how much will something like that cost? Also I think those who wfh should definitely consider a sit/stand desk .. nowadays I hardly sit during the day except when I have to watch some training video or having lunch etc.

The desk height is 100 which is about 20 higher than “standard” so I assume he’s wanting it to be a hybrid sit (high seat) and stand.

The total cost is £4500. Mixture of oak, maple and English walnut.
