Iain Carter on Tiger Woods

Since when has the WGC Matchplay been the most exciting tourney of the year?? or am i reading that wrong.

I admit the timing was not perfect but tiger apologised for that in his statement.

The game needs Tiger and the tour officials know it.

It might have ruined the day for media types but for joe public watching at home it didn't really detract from the golf at all imo. That was partly that Tiger's piece didn't really reveal anything newsworthy and was actually quite dull and partly as it came a good few hours before the golf itself. There was no juicy gossip from TW at all, just an apology to his family basically.
My thoughts when I heard about the TW news event was that it could well detract from the WGC but in the event it didn't, there were too many good ties in the WGC to watch.

Spot on Birdieman!as you say Tiger was on a long time before the golf started and never took anything away from the ties that where being played!!

All these Pro's who were whinging at the fact Woods held his conference on Friday need to wake up and realise without him they will be competing for less cash and the PGA Tour will be a weaker brand.

PGA tour is going to be a much lesser place without the greatman, before his self enforced lay off sponsors were pulling out or cutting back due to economic climate, now rumour has it as many as 5-7 events will not be happening at all next season never mind going ahead with less prize fund as sponsors run to the hills with the Tiger factor being added to the economic climate. It aint just sponsor money that will be lost, without the tours greatest asset TV contract cash will be well down so in turn again prize fund will decrease.

Do you think the draw of one man makes the game appealing .. Rubbish is what I say when you fail to forget the fact the array of players that were playing ...

Please sto think Tiger is rhw be all and end all ..and his Apology was farcial

I'm with colin on this one, one player, although arguably one of the all time best pulling out doesnt make any event less worthy of winning. There are many great players if you take the stripey blinkers off that could easily hold their own. I wish the whole saga would take a rest tbh and let the others who want to play get on with it. couldnt care less if I'm frank about tiger, dont like or dislike but sick of all the headlines taking over. Dont want to play then dont.

Colin/Alec I reckon you have the wrong end of the stick...you can only win a tournament by beating the other players that are in it, and nothing is being 'taken away' from that tw@ts win...

What the disagreement is that IC has seemed to forgotten the most dramatic and exciting day of the golfing calendar is the last day of The Open or maybe Masters but not the Friday of a slightly lesser important event than all 4 majors let alone those 2......

I think it was a great field and i like the majority of the tour but tiger IMO is the best and he does make the game more appealing to the masses so thats not rubbish.

Whether you like it or not or whether you like him or not golf needs him the tour needs him otherwise the sponsor money will dissapear along with the crowds and the tourneys. The majority of the pros will say they want to be the best so they want him their so they can prove they are the best.

I'm not a Poulter fan Sam and it wasnt why I made the comment. Simply, if he doesnt want to play then dont.
