This used to be one of the stronger points of my game. OK I have never sunk many long putts but I was a consistant 2 putter and anything within a few feet normally went in the cup. Three putts were pretty rare.

For the last few weeks, however, the ball just will not go in. One week they are going long, next week short, week after I am picking the wrong lines and this week everything was lipping out.

This is driving me up the wall. The rest of my game is improving no end and I am hitting more greens in regulation than ever so it is annoying me no end that my putting touch has deserted me and is causing my handicap to head in the wrong direction.

Get on the practice green and do a few drills would be my suggestion.

Put a tee at 6ft and practise pace to that and then move it a couple of feet further away, putt at it, and then repeat as per that pattern.

I went through a phase where my putting got embarassingly bad but managed to sharpen it right up with this drill.

Simple answer (and old chestnut) but have you thought of a lesson to check the fundamentals. I had one last season and it was a revelation. That and the switch to the odyssey #9 my wife got me for my birthday this year and my putting is transformed

Therein lies the problem. Lessons are a bit of a waste of time at the moment as I just do not have the time to practice what I am told.

I think half the problem is that I only get out on the course once a week and that has normally been in a medal recently so immediately under pressure. Add to that the self inflicted pressure of trying to get down to 18 by the end of the season and the putting woes may be all in my head.

The frustrating thing is that it has been like this for a couple of years and even when the rest of my game was going to pot, my putter was keeping the round together. Now the rest of the game is coming together it is annoying that the one bit that was consistant has deserted me

Gb, practice drills , lesson to check the basics is the only way you can go. What seems common is slit of people if not all struggle to get everything working on the same day, try and focus positively on what's working to promote a smile ;)

I recently had my putting stripped and rebuilt by my pro, it's far from 100% but it's gettin better

Ok, so you want to improve, but wont have time to practise if you have a lesson. Which means drills are out too.

Can you just get your pro to check your alignment?

If that's all right, then you can be sure it's just a form thing. Once you know that, you can relax, knowing it's just a matter of time.

And once you relax, you'll start holing them.

If your alignment is wrong, you can concentrate on that, and forget about worrying if the damn wee white thing is going to drop. Which should do the trick.

I put one of my putters on the BBQ the other day as a punishment for a particularly bad round. I mean, there was no way it could have been my fault ......

Like ya style Paul, mine was really bad yesterday so I replaced it lol

In all fairness it was a mixture of worn holes, multiple paced poor greens and no confidence in reading them, but don't tell the putter that

If all confidence is gone and you hate it, change it.

I changed recently and a btter return on the greens was almost instant. The new one is heavier and maybe that helped smooth the stroke, not sure.

I swapped from a Ping G2 anser style putter to a Yes! Marilyn. My putting is transformed.

Quite a change this - from heel-toe to face balanced. Sometimes getting a putter that matches your stroke is part of the way forward.
