Afternoon all!

Played my usual short course (all par 3's and 4's) yesterday, and had an absolute barnstormer! It was only my 6th ever round, and my previous best was 106.

I shot 87! With a handicap of 28, that puts me at 59, which is 3 under par! I'm chuffed to bits.

And it's all down to a new shot I learned. Don't know what it's called, but from up to 35 ish yards from the green, I've been taking a 6 iron, and taking a tiny swing, more like a putting motion, and rolling it on. So much better than trying to hit a quarter swing wedge, assuming there are no obstacles in the way. It's a revelation!

I've just got to do it again to prove it wasn't a fluke!

Nice one :D, now you've just got to do it again!

That shot's a bump and run, very useful especially on links style courses. Something which I could have done with the other week - the first time I'd played a frozen course and the greens were like concrete.

There's many ways to skin a cat and it's all about working out what works for you.

Well done! If you can get competent from 35 yds out, then that's where all your scoring will be done. Don't worry if your next game is in the 90s or 100s, that's just the nature of the game. If it was easy, we wouldn't want to do it would we?

Breaking 100 for the first time is always a major milestone for a beginner! Well done - I was going to say now focus on breaking 90, but you've done that as well! Now focus on..........breaking 80!!

Congrats.

It is said that with a 6 iron chip that if you land the ball 1/4 of the way to the target it will roll the other 3/4 of the way. All that leaves is working out 1/4 distance and then landing the ball there. It brings the landing zone much closer to you and makes it an easier shot for it.

Enjoy the warm glow or a PB!
