I bought a Ping G400 4 (22deg) hybrid a few months back to replace the 5 wood in my set and to provide some other shot options etc. I’ve been disappointed with it from the outset, finding that it lacked both distance and the promised height advantage relative to my 4-iron. When I did get the ball airborne with it, it seemed to drop out of the sky rather quickly. I assumed this was more likely to be me than the club, so left it in the bag on the basis that I’d work out how to swing/use it successfully with play over time. I didn’t reach for it very frequently as I still felt I hit my 4i a similar distance with a better flight. The hybrid quietly became a disappointment, lurking unused in my bag.

I now know that it works much better with the protective plastic film removed from the face. Doh....!

i would imagine though depending what the lofts were, a 22 hybrid isnt going to go as far as a 5 wood, less loft and longer shaft than a 22 hybrid which is going to be more like an iron. typical 4 iron would be 24 deg, so little surprise its going about the same distance, despite the plastic
