When I was fitted for my Ping G25s almost a year ago I went for the 20* Hybrid.

I never seem to get it airborne so it tends to sit in the bag - thought I might go for the 3 iron in the same spec as the other irons in my set as I hit my 4 iron pretty well.

What's the view of you experts?

I'm no expert, but I'd say go with the one you hit best and gives the best results. Or am I thinking waaaaay outside the box?

Noemi , your right but as a rule of thumb a hybrid should be easier to hit and more forgiving. Especially given that most 3i are more like a traditional 2i loft wise.

As stated, there will be a simple flaw in the swing, maybe as stated the user is trying to sweep it up instead of hitting it like an iron.

Maybe post a video DTL and face on in the experts section, someone may be able to pick out the issue.

It'll be bit of an issue with technique, and the intent of what you're trying to do with the hybrid when you swing it.

Before you give up on it completely, as a hybrid in general is a lot easier for most folks to get a good flight from it than a long iron.
Very important that you don't try & help it up, or sweep it from the ground.

A hybrid still needs a downward attack angle exactly as any iron does, lowest point of the swing arc therefore needs to be target side of the ball, so ball first ground second.

Ball position with your hybrid needs to be in the same place in your stance as your 4i, you just need to have the same 'intent' of down & through, to hit it well.

Assuming your RH golfer, at impact you need your weight on your left leg starting the downswing & through impact so commit to swinging through the ball to a balanced finish, but ball first, ground second, so swing down & through don't be afraid to take a bit of the ground after the ball as that's what's supposed to happen.

I've retired my 3,4 and 5 irons for 2 hybrids!
I do seem to strike them more consistently!
Hopefully it will show in a reducing HC when the season gets going!!
