would a Laser Range Finder save you, just interested as I've never seen any stats on this.

A laser on it's own is pretty useless however, couple it with knowing how far you hit every club and it is a really useful tool.
I'd guess at it saving me one shot per round and that is a big chunk when you don't have many to play with.

Surely there are no stats for using distance measuring devices. If you are rubbish at distances and use one and it improves your score then only you will be able to answer the question.

as above knowing exactly how far you hit each club will work wonders itself and having good course management.
what i did find though was that using a gps system at away courses worked wonders,especially if the 2nd shots and approaches to greens were blind.or if you hit it a bit wayward.......
so it would probably save you a few shots...

Hard to quantify but decent yardages are essential. The key for me is the TRUST factor, it's one thing pacing out a shot but a laser (or even GPS) is far better than me.

Cant agree more. Sometimes I struggle to believe the yardage my laser says! So often leads to a bad shot

Sorry should have been more clear, I was just wondering if someone who had measured their distances etc, I know it doesn't compensate for bad shots. just wanted to know if there was an average number of shots people save a round by knowing the distance & then knowing which club to hit. Thinking of getting one.

In current conditions I don't bother taking mine out on the course. It may tell me it's 146 yards to the pin, but it doesn't tell me how the ball will react off a frozen fairway or green.

I bought a Bushnell V2 a year ago and it is awesome! It has been instrumental in my handicap change. I know my distances because I use it when I practice too. I stand over the ball 100% committed. Go with it!
I have a SC5 and spent a lot of time getting my distances worked out when I got it. Funnily enough it really comes into its own much closer to the green when I have to decide which wedge to use. I think a DMD will help but you have to have a shrewd idea how far you hit your clubs (and be honest with yourself) and trust the number. Sometimes I've looked at the distance, looked at the target and thought it seemed much closer than the reading. 9/10 times the machine has been right. Commit and it usually works out for the best

Go for it, knew I couldn't reach a par 5 yesterday so zoomed in on flag and was 253m away so deducted 75m for my SW to leave 178 which is a six iron with some run on it. Hit said six iron was left with 76m and stiffed my SW to four feet and nailed the birdie.

I had an interesting experience with our Pro on this, we were checking my carry distances, I had my measuring wheel and he used his Bushnell, now as a surveyor I know my good old wheel on flat ground is deadly accurate, the Bushnell was up to 5 yards different over 150 yards, could have been operator error or it was picking up a false target, either way I would find it difficult to trust one completely.
