I'm curious as to how many hours people spend with a Pro taking lessons in a typical year.
And maybe for those people who are new(ish) to golf as I assume the number would be higher?

I did a course of 4 Hours over the last 2 months (including 1 Hr on the course) and I have just bought a set of 10 Hours to carry me into the winter with the hope that I will be somewhat better come the spring.

I'm certainly enjoying my lesson time and I can see a number of improvements in my game (and a reduction in lost balls when I'm out on the course).

Mark;)

It depends. I've actually cut down in 2011 as I tended to get over analytical, too wound up on swing thoughts and not playing enough. This year I've only had 5 x 1 hour with one to come in December. There is stuff I/we want to do with my well known lift at impact but its a balance between something so ingrained and something that works (sometimes) so how far down that road we'll go I'm not sure. Currently working on a better posture and impact position and told that get those right and some of the problem will be reduced. Had a lot more lessons in 2010 as I had real chipping nightmares. Mostly mental but tried a number of pros to get something to click. Other than that only went when the game was in a dip and for a quick fix

Why is none not an option ? Less than an hour could mean a half hour or three quarter hour lesson.

I'm in Imurg's 'bugger all' category.;)

Hard for me to actually answer this one, my pro has built my swing up over the past year a bit at a time, if i get a lesson on the range it usually only lasts for about 10 mins or so, one only lasted 5 mins, my pro gives me small pieces at a time and once ive picked it up he leaves me too it. But as i am friendly with my pro and we play 6 or 9 holes 3-4 times a week he will remind me on the course if i havent quite grasped what he altered.
He also taught me course management while we play and how to chip and short pitch shots etc, to assess which iron to use on each chip, rather than just using the same each time which i used to do and chipped inconsistently. Also he has built my confidence up big time. For a couple of months he said to me uite often that he now didnt expect a bad shot from me but it took me those couple of months to not think negatively and expect it myself.

I have gone from slicing my drives about 150 to getting a draw and hitting around 250, my 6 iron was about 155 straight and maybe 145 if faded, now its 175, i used to scoop alot with wedges.

I started the season playing off 28 and had one card with 14 dings and 8 points, to winning my section with 40 points just before the end of the season, and this was before i got the extra 20 yards.
I used to go out and it would be double bogey for 2points on our SI6 1st hole then ding on our 2nd a 540yd par5, this morning i had 4 for 4pts and 5 for 3 pts.

The second best player in our club actually said to me last week that he expected me to come in with about 50 points some week in the new year.

I stood today on our first and picked the Tiger line and hit a perfect draw drive and was 10 yards past my friend (9 hcap) who used to hit his 3 wood 25yds past my OLD GOOD drives. Now that was a great feeling and to then hit GIR though too long and 2 putt for par while he missed the green and got bogey was even better.
Now i just need to keep the practice up over the winter on the range and on the course, get the swing fully embedded into me as tbh i am in a transition period at the moment and its still 75/25 with my driver and 50/50 on the irons, the head knows what it wants the body to do but sometimes the body doesnt listen to it LOL, hopefully then come the new season i can start to get my hcap down and possibly win some trophies if im lucky.

A good few, I do however also golf with him as hes a mate, lesson wise, maybe 15 hours, 45 hours if you include the time actually out on the course.

Have had 2 this year so far one in the summer and one 2 weeks ago with another one on Tuesday, the guy i go to videos your swing and plays it back in slow motion which is great to see how bad your swing is.
After seeing the video he said i was scooping the ball hit a 6 iron 8 iron distance. He gave a drill to work on to compress the ball and also to have a square club face. The twice i've played since i've noticed a big improvement in my ball striking. Money well spent so far.
