If the first group go out on a Saturday morning and take 5 hours for a round and the tee is booked solidly all day, how long will your round take (minimum) if your group is last off?
Teeing off at 11.30am should have made it quiet yesterday. No-one really in front, other than a 4 ball, one of whom had, to say the least, had a few too many pies over the years. 2 of them were in a buggy and when we caught them on the 12th, pace of play went downhill.
We were a 3 ball, and we weren't allowed through. It transpired that they had teed off 1h8mins in front of us! They were consequenty nigh on 5 and a half hours - in a buggy!
Playing in a 4 ball bounce game last week we let a 3 ball through on the 3rd. Caught them up by the 8th and spent the next 2 hours waiting on every tee and fairway.
was surprsied how quick we got a round yesterday course was full with comp untill 11.30 scoiety booked untill 12:10 we got around in about 3 hrs 45 mins considering we where behind a soicety
In fairness, we do get round as a fourball pretty much on 4 hours but we'd definitely be around at least 20 minutes quicker if the overall starting pace was quicker. They never enter comps and just play their own game every week. I've no qualms but I do feel that they are lacking the basic understanding of etiquette and course management you only develop playing with better players. They are seen as a pain by many. I think the fact that they are immune to the comments suggestions and complaints is the biggest problem which is why the majority are thinking fo taking it to the powers that be
A typical sunday round of 18 is 4.5 hours at our course. Thats playing at a decent pace, only waiting on the call down holes. Quickest I've been round was 3 hours and that was as a one ball midweek.
Doesn't bother me so much, that is along as your not stood over every shot waiting for a green to clear.
The stupid thing was, we were first of the "normal" groups out and we were standing on the 13th tee as a group came past going back down 14. One of them turned round and said "we can't go any faster". I didn't know if they were physically incapable, skill wise incapable or what. I did point out that the done thing was to let faster groups through but he just carried on to his ball and played merrily on.
They were about a half hole down so won't waiting to hit into greens or on the tees. However none of the groups in front were moving at a great pace and hence the concertina effect every weekend
