I went out early this morning for a quick 18 by myself and due to the slowness of the 3-ball and 4-ball infront of me i spent a lot of my time waiting around(5 hours for a solo round).

How does this affect your game? Does it change anything mentally for you?

I ended up shooting an 82 (Par65) This was only the 3rd time i've broken 90 and the last 2 were an 87 and an 89... I can't help but feel like the waiting and extra time to prepare myself may have actually helped me.

I should add this was my 1st round using my new clubs so it could well have been down to them as my ball striking today was so much cleaner than it normally is.

Depeding on how long the hold up is but it usually affects my game for the worse. I Find myself constantly taking practise swings which in turn makes me think to much about technique once its time to take the shot. This ends up being a duff which leads to frustration, then tension for the next shot. Well thats my excuse anyway..

Depends more on my attitude than anything else. If I don't let it bother me, stay focussed and take my time it doesn't affect me... maybe even helps a wee bit. On the other hand if I let it annoy me or if I end up hurrying and speeding up when it's my turn to play it can be a disaster!

+1

Sometimes it gets on my nerves, sometimes not. Depends on the reason for the hold up sometimes.. if the course is just busy then no big deal.... if I'm in a rush to get finished then I've learned to only play 9 holes :D

Usually has a bad effect on my game, I like to keep the momentum going. If I have to stand around and wait I find I lose my rhythm and usually hit a bad shot.

I tend to step up for my shot after a 5 minute wait and totally cock it up :-(

Im really no good with slow play as I get easily frustrated and that leads to anger!!!

I'm very rarely angered by anything on a golf course, i'm just happy to be out in the fresh air hitting a ball around. This also caused me to have an audience on my tee shot every hole... How does this affect your game? I personally like an audience when playing, i feel like i'm mentally encouraged when i know im under a little pressure. However i'm well aware there are a few buddies of mine who hate being spectated when on the tees :p

To be honest I'm not surprised it took +5 hours. I can't understand how a solo player can go out at peak times and expect to get it round in a good time. I doubt if the course was busy there would have been anywhere for you be let through without running into more traffic

If the round is slow, I'll have a chat about anything non-golfing with my partners, get some fluid or food on board and just watch the goings on and enjoy the scenery and wildlife

I'm not too fussed about it, i just wondered how it affected other peoples game as it seemed to have a positive one on mine :)

Also the course wasn't particularily busy it was just that kind of day today ;)

+1. I find myself being annoyed by being held up by a single group in front of me and I then try to rush through my shot just to get going again.

I'm not so bad when the groups are back logged and there are a few groups in front as I know it's is not the fault of the group ahead. Usually I catch them up and can have a natter with them and sometimes join in or get let through

Sometimes it might throw out my rhythm but that was a while back.....Im a mellow enough chap and dont get wound easily so if im waiting i just might start swinging a club to stay loose and work on whatever iv been practicing in my swing....

Seems to be working so far....Although a wait on the 18th today threw me a little and i ended up messing up the hole......

When I first started it used to, but after a few comps I realised it was part of golf. So just relaxed and stopped letting it get to me.

The biggest factor was doing a mini warm up and ensuring I do a proper pre shot routine before the shot.

Most people I see firstly get irritated about being help up, then get distracted and finally realise they can play and rush through a shot. That always results in a mess!

I'm usually a very quick player when i go round which is why i thought it might have affected me today but i think it actually helped my game more than anything else. I am the kind of player who walks on to a tee has at most 1 practice swing and i just get on with it, but today i had more time to have a few swings and stay loose.

I try to relax and not worry. Medal rounds in comps are always slower and so I figure if I can use slow roll up rounds to get a positive frame of mind it means I won't let it affect me when it counts

I tend to struggle when play is bad.

I normally try to stick to 1 practise swing then pull the trigger. If I get held up I start to have a few practise swings which start to become inconsistent. Then when play moves on I end up duffing it no where near where the group in front played for.

Alot of the time I could play my shot as I would never reach the group but I'm always worried I'll catch it a little to good and end up maiming someone.

I dont let it bother me as you cant change it and its the quickest way for tension to creep in!

I adopt the same attitude at airports, makes me laugh when people get worked up about a flight being delayed. I just chill out in the bar or have some food. Its not like I can get someone to go an rearrange it so my flight is no longer delayed.

Given all the slow play threads & how they've subsequently destroyed the posters round I'd say the majority hate the delay

Can I ask those who believe the delay has an adverse affect on their game, do you then book a lesson with the pro on how to overcome it? & if not why not?

Is it fair to say club golfers will spend hundreds on clubs/lessons etc to cure a slight swing adjustment off the tee to shave a couple of shots a round but not a penny on fixing something that could easily cost them 8-10 shots in a round!

You want to try sitting on a plane for two hours before it even takes off, at the start of a thirteen hour flight. That's when delays get annoying. No bar to sit in in this scenario.
