... Through impact and follow through?
I love how even with all that hip speed his left foot seems so planted
and flat.

I have this habit of rolling my ankle over.
Are there any drills I can do to prevent this.. I'm worried
If I carry on rolling my ankle it could cause injury in later years.
Plus I'm sure I would benefit from better ball striking

Cheers in advance,
Jim

Most of McIlroy's power is actually generated (or follows) his incredibly fast hip turn. That action is actually more rotational rather than a weight shift, so keeping his left foot stable is 'simple'.

And like all the top players, he's got great balance!

Try and keep the weight on the inside of your front foot by turning inside the red line.

I found it helps to put something under the outside of my left foot to stop me rolling to the outside of the foot.
I broke a bit of wood off of a pallet, but anything will do as long as it doesn't move when you stand on it. Mine is about 1/2 - 3/4" thick.

It also makes me feel like I'm turning better, and can feel the difference by the pulling in the inside of my left thigh.

cheers for the replies boys, i'm seeing now in those pics how its more of a rotation
then a 'slide and rotate' which is what i do.

Gonna start working on having the weight on my inside left foot.

Will also give the pallet wood drill a go :)

Snap shot of me just before impact..

so if i concentrate on rotating within the line and not bowing my left
leg it should help??

Thanks for the feedback bob..
Just looked at that pic again... Are my shoulders too open in relation
to my hip turn or is that ok?

Cheers

Lots of players have their left foot turned out (open) a little, yours is dead square..... Rory's is a 'little' open, not as much as many others. I't not unusual to roll the left ankle... certainly never heard of keeping the weight to the inside of the LEFT foot, onto the heel? Yes,... on the inside? No.
