How do you become a caddy?

At what level are we talking?

If its just a bit of fun to supplement income. I'd contact your nearest "big" track. The ones that the Yanks and Japs and now the Swedish all want to play. They should have a caddy master who will let you know about vacancies, outings that need caddies etc.

That should help.

Make sure you have a dry towel in your jacket and if you have a skycaddie that is also a bonus. Just give yardages and sound confident!

always wanted to know about caddying ... what if you want to get to pro level, are there courses etc ? or is it luck, good golfer yourself, friendship ?

I would initially just want to do it as a side line to see how it goes. I'm not sure there are any big named clubs near me.

If I enjoyed it how would you look to making it with the pro's? :)

I assume that you mean caddying on a tour and not at a local club? I would imagine theres alot of good fortune about this. i.e. being in the right place at the right time.

Also, top level caddying is much more than just humping a set of clubs around. A good knowledge of your players personality and game would be required.

I noticed in the US Open playoff at Walton Heath that one of the players did not have a caddy. But what could anyone do but pull his trolley for him and give him yardages if he has the nerve to let you have his books?

Start by looking at the tour events local to you. It would be more likely I guess to get a job at the Europro/senior events as opposed to the full tour. Once you have a bag it comes down to personalties and money going forward.

Caddies are a bizarre and protective bunch on tour. They wont take kindly to random approaches to their man.

Put simply, get yourself out there to local events, tread carefully and ask the question.

the few articles i have seen from caddys it seems very much a case of being in the right place at the right time.

St. Mellion is round your way, not sure the situation with caddies though. I didn't see any when i was there, but worth ringing the course up.
