Has anyone organized a race night?Ive just been on some websites and they add all the extras i dont want.Surely its just a matter of buying the cds, selling the horses and paying out a percentage of winnings and then keeping the profits.Im looking to arrange one for our golf club.Is it that simple or do i need any of the extras?thx

dvd avaliable on fleabay... less than £5.

as for the stakes maybe 50p a horse, try this....

payout; total 50 bets £25.00

horse 1 has 10 bets so can pay out 3/1 plus stake = £20

horse 2 has 20 bets so pay out ev plus stake = £20

horse 3 has 5 bets so 7/1 plus stake = £20

horse 4 has 6 bets so pay out 11/2 plus stake - nearly 20

etc etc.

30 races on the disc at £5 profit per race would bring in £150

easiest way is to take a cut from total bets towards the golf funds then equally divide the rest between the holders of the winning tickets for that race.

hope you can understand the above, cos i'm having difficulty..lol

Tote pool betting basically.

Much easier to manage if you don't want to get involved with generating form and fixed odds etc.

To generate extra funds run an auction on each race ie groups of 3,4,6 people bid against each other for each horse/donkey in each race. Hope that makes sense.

That makes sense, and thats basically the plan.Have 8 tables of so many people,8 horses in each race sold to individual tables, say each horse on average £20 times 8 =160,£100 quid to winning table £60 to club times 7 races =£420 profit, sounds easy enough

we used to do these years ago, pre-cd, on board usually on up-channel night.

Played on a giant totopoly style track (who remembers that!) marked out on the flight deck or in a hangar, divided into sections, with fences if you wanted to prolong the action. Auctioned the horses (these could be wooden or human) sometimes went for up to £200 a time (usually to syndicates), the owners threw giant dice - six to clear a fence.

Once you (and the horses) have had a few it can be amusing - and with six or more races, quite lucrative.
