i'm off for a few days to tenerife soon and i'm wondering what insurance I REALLY REQUIRE. as an over 65 with a NHS euro card hooray' . but i'm being treated for possible angina ? and reflux problems. I'm not worried about luggage loss, travel delay OR HEALTH problems, being hit by a drunk driver or alcohol poisoning are the the biggest 2 worries . so taking into account that if anything bad did happen , my wife would not want my body back , anymore than she does now [with a stiff shaft at last too late ]' whats the best insurance advice for me' not the wife

Make sure that you are adequately covered!

So, you have a heart attack and spend weeks in a hospital and then you need specialist help to get home as the airlines won't let you travel without adequate medical care - thats going to cost you thousands! There are many scenarios that would see you forking out and I don't believe that foreign hospitals are as generous as the dear old NHS even if you do flutter your Euro Card.

Mate it really isn't worth the risk. Insure and go will insure you for around £11 for a couple. Have a look online. I wiuld never travel without insurance, you never know.

Try the Post Office or Saga. My dad, who is in his seventies and has angina, got a quote from the Post Office last year and just had to ring the medical screening department. It only cost him a few extra pounds to cover him for his pre-existing condition. I think for a week in Portugal his insurance cost was about £50. The EHIC is ok to a degree but if you are hit by a drunk driver it will be your travel insurance that will save the day.
I had to cancel a holiday a few years ago as my mum was taken seriously ill. Taking out travel insurance meant I had the full cost of my holiday reimbursed. Taking out travel insurance is a no-brainer.

I'm trying to get affordable car insurance for Morocco now that is a nightmare!
I wouldn't even think about travelling anywhere outside the UK without travel insurance as it's not expensive but could save you a fortune.

I have a history of epilepsy although its been inactive for over 10 years, I use a company called flexi cover in beckenham, you get charged a screening fee of around £10-15 quid when you register, but after that their insurance is on par with most companies who don't cover illness's

I got bitten with a 2k medical bill when falling ill in Greece a few years back, the company found a loop hole and I had to pick up the complete slate...... Once bitten twice shy ;)
