I've been online tonight looking at Log Cabins for a week away with the wife and kids. Flip me some people/places need to get a reality check

£1500 a week for a Log Cabin in the Argyll forest WTF!

£1350 a week in Aviemore, plus £30 cleaning for the dog!!!

I could probably go fully inclusive to Spain for a week cheaper, including spending money!

Crawford, we were looking at Centre Parcs last year but were cheaper going all inclusive to Turkey for a fortnight.

That was flights, transfers and all the food and drink you could wish for. Looking at this year there are some good deals going in Spain and Turkey so we will once again leave these shores with £1000+ to spend ABROAD.

Aviemore? Caravan in Nairn I say, only a 30 min drive away. Granted when they mention berths, they mean oompah loompahs so divide any number in two.
Or iirc Spey valley had little houses and rooms to rent, you could try chatting to them?

Me and the Missus went to Crete the year before last. Height of the season, 11 nights, fully inclusive, just a shade over £525.00 each including flights!!.
You couldn't have got a weeks half board at a "reasonable" hotel in Blackpool for that!
The food wasn't up to much but the drinks were ok!
Undecided on where to go this year, still browsing the websites but one things for certain...it won't be in the UK.

I don't even consider holidaying in this country for our main holiday, far to expensive. Short breaks where deals are offered are best.

The price of those log cabins are crazy. I don't see how they can justify charging so much.
I'm off to Florida for two weeks this year, my first time in the US.

Tell me about it Craw - the UK (and most of Europe) is a damn rip off. Last two holidays have been to Vietnam and Sri Lanka, once the £400 flight is paid for, it's no more than £20 a day, including travelling around, hotels, food, touristy things, and many many Saigon beers.

Certainly not planning on travelling within the Euro Zone this year, too damned expensive. Even a weekend breach costs about the same as I would look to spend on a week away. Turkey is the only bargain at the moment as is cheap to get to and does not use the Euro. Ideally I will head out to Thailand again this year, superb place, dirt cheap once you are there and love Chang beer.

Wouldn't dream of spending a week or longer on holiday in the UK. Would have to be a pretty competitive deal to encourage me to even do a UK golf trip too compared with what places like Turkey are offering now.

Even something like the Ashbury Manor which I like as a simple to get to, relaxed environment, plenty of golf, destination is becoming way too expensive. If I was going to do anything, I'd fly to Scotland, hire a car, get some B&B's sorted and travel to some of the courses a lot of the guys on here play at. Not always big names but from pictures posted always look great, offer properly priced green fees and a fair price for food after.

Well if it was just me and her I'd obviously reign the golf into just 5 rounds in the week. :p

Normally she is into things like antique shops and old churches and so tends to go off wandering anyway. Find somewhere with a lot of oldy worldy stuff to please her and I could get a morning round in, meet for lunch and still keep the brownie points intact.

I was actually talking from a golfing holiday perspective and as she doesn't play that would be with some of the guys from the club. However as cash is a problem its all hypothetical anyway. Shame though cos the idea of a Scottish trip had some appeal

Wouldn't go back to the Ashbury again but Devon/Cornwall always appeal and are pretty accessible from the M4. Having played much in Wales. Have to rectify that one day too

We did a week on the Isle of Wight last year. Rented a 3 bed house, me, The Boy, HID, MIL and FIL. Add a week's shopping and we did the whole thing for less than a grand.
So it can be done. Just depends on what you want and where you want to go.
Did North Yorkshire 2 years ago, similar thing, similar price.

I just got back from Benidorm Actually I went the week before Christmas Full board, all flights and a good hotel. Cost £240.00 per person. Factor in £1.00 a pint everywhere and no snow. That was serious value for money. If me n her went into Leeds for a beer thats £7.00 in bus fares, £2.80 per pint x 6 pints each breakfast x2 £7.00 a burger for dinner x 2 £10.00 evening beer session 4-6 pints and evening meal £25.00 thats not far from £500 for the week and thats in my own city knee deep in snow, zero enjoyment plus I stil have to pay gas and electric for the house.
I would rather pull my teeth out with pliers than holiday at home.

Just booked for 3 nights in Edinburgh at the end of April. Cost £249 for 3 nights B&B, probs £65 return for both of us on the train, £200 on meals and god knows on beer..

It is expensive golfing abroad this time of year is also expensive for a couple. It’s ok to go to Benidorm and eat crap and drink watered down beer (they are used to that in South Leeds;-) ) on the cheap but it’s not replacement for some great UK breaks like York, Durham, Edinburgh and the likes. I guess if you have kids then Spain and abroad would be far cheaper and better, I am quite spoilt as my folks live in Spain near Murcia so I have access to them all year around.
