Hole in One

Still waiting and if my performance at the par 3's on Saturday in the club champiosnhip is anything to go by I'll be lucky to ever hit a green again let alone get a hole in one. Great shooting and many congratulatios

Bob, not casting dispursions but surprised you have never had one being a pro and playing for 40 years. Do you line up a foot either side of the hole to avoid the bar bill :D

32 years and counting, the closest I've been that I've actually seen is no nearer than about three feet.

I have, apparently been much closer than that though. I say apparently because I never saw it. I was playing Woodlands nr Bristol a couple of years back, by myself and I was following an oldish guy in a buggy. There's a very short par 4 there, about 270 yards but it's a hard dogleg left and if you know the line, you can go straight at it, I usually take a 4i and aim for the pylon in the distance. Anyway I was following this bloke and as I walked to the tee, I could have sworn I'd seen him walk off the green, so I get to the tee, put my ball down and hit it. I knew it wasn't going to be far away as the line was bang on the pylon, the only question was what the wind did to the distance.

So I amble round the corner, approaching the green but I can't see my ball, there's a very big bunker short of the green, designed to catch people who fall short trying to go for it, so I checked in there, no sign, I check the semi-rough in front of the green, no sign, think, oh well, must have gone through the back, walk round there, have a good hunt, no sign. Now very puzzled, I start to think perhaps the green wasn't clear and the guy in front has picked my ball up in a huff, but I also think there's one place I haven't checked yet, so I walk over to the hole and there's my ball sitting in the bottom of the cup. My very first thought was "No, that didn't happen, doesn't feel right", so I picked the ball up, marked a 2 on the card and carried on.

Two holes later I catch up with this guy on the tee, I say "Hello", he says "Alright, how you getting on?", "Not bad" I say, "not bad", pause, "You didn't have a little joke with me back there on the 10th did you?", big grin, "You enjoyed that one then?", I won't repeat what I said next, but I asked him how close it was "About two inches" he replied, holding up his finger and thumb the appropriate distance, "it was a great shot, so I thought I'd tap it in for you!"

And that's the closest I've ever been, but I've only got his word on that.

If you were casting dispersions I'll let you off :)

I've been close loads of times, the most recent a few weeks ago

On my phone, on the train, no spell check :o :D

Writing on the blackboard now, dispersions, dispersions, dispersions....;)

BTW, how many putts did you take?

congratulations!!!

i was almost joining you - at our 15th which was playing just over 150 yds on Sunday, i took out my 7i, nice easy swing and it flew straight towards the hole, bounced once about 4 or 5 ft before it then rolled up....

it lipped out and finished about 6ft away!

i wouldn't have minded the bar bill either as there were only about 6 folk in it when we finished!

I wonder if that was my one and only chance?
