Hoax callers ? are they responsable?

Reading through more details I am surprised this was approved and not censored by the legal team who reviewed the pre recorded hoax call. Something tells me there was a series of errors by the radio station. The BBC article does seem to give a full picture and I hope lessons are learnt from this tragic series of unfortunate events.

does it matter if she was close to the edge,this infantile prank could have been the last straw for her but if it had not been done she would still be alive so the two djs should be held responsible for manslaughter if the letter of the law is followed.

madness,depression,suicide
Get real,if she was mad or depressed in any way she wouldnt have been in her job.
Yes she may have gone to the extreme,but people react to bad news in diferent ways.
Tragic i would say.
If these people never rang she would be alive,simple
 
No one knows and never will know what went through her brain to make her take her life.

All we do know is that the whole episode is tragic and the end outcome may have been avoidable.
 
Sky News is saying the presenters won't return to the station for the foreseeable future, out of respect for the tragedy.

It's a difficult one. They obviously should be held responsible for their actions, but could anyone have foresees that this would happen?
 
There has to be a degree of guilt laid at the door of the DJ's and the station. Will there be legal proceedings? I'm not so sure. I bet Kate isn't too happy either and it will leave a cloud over what should be a happy time for her. I think the DJ's will resign/be sacked as a sacrificial offering to appease public opinion and that will be the end of the matter
 
Worldwide public humiliation, a feeling of letting your employer and your colleagues down, feeling that you have let a patient down, knowing that the same patient will be coming back over and over again for the next 6 months. Hardly unreasonable that her mind would go into turmoil, it wouldnt be easy to just shrug it off would it? Its very sad that this lady reacted in the way she did. I just hope that the DJ's get sacked and the Australian people demand higher standards from their broadcasters.
 
It is there fault. There actions indirectly caused the death of someone, although unforeseen it would have been clear to anyone with an iq above Australian national average, which I'm now assuming is roughly 75 that humiliating a health care professional who has studied for years o build a career in front of the entire world may not be very nice and lead to negative consequences, be that her being sacked or being very very upset
 
Of course they're responsible, possibly partly or possibly wholly.

If the poor woman had dropped dead with a heart attack at the shock of speaking to the queen would the dj's been deemed culpable?
 
Obtaining confidential information by deception, if it isn't illegal it should be. When you play a stupid prank on a complete stranger the consequences cannot be predicted. Tragedy for the nurse and her family.
 
Yes - they are guilty in the same way that gossip can kill. They could have had no idea of the state of mind of whoever would end up on the end of their call and the 'fall guy' of their 'joke' - and that poor nurse was the 'fall guy'. We don't know, but that incident may not have been the sole reason - but it may have been the last straw - the straw that broke her.
 
Interestingly the defence of the dj's on Australian websites is quite breathtaking. I am expecting the term "whinging poms" to surface at any moment.
 
Not discounting the awful events for one minute, but i would have loved to have been a fly on the wall at the radio station when this news came in.

They would have gone from Worldwide headlines, mega publicity, ratings boosts, champaign etc into a huge black hole as soon as realisation kicked in, that would have been a sight

Just a shame that someone had to die to make it happen

There were no grounds for suspension. Not privately or professionally. She simply transfered a call and it was widely available public knowledge that the hospital was where Kate was. The nurse who gave over the information after the call was transfered however could potentially be suspended and disciplined not only by the hospital but by the NMC. Although the hospital would need to review it policies on how dealing with telephone inquiries. Technically you can shouldn't even confirm that someone is on the ward because you can't be 100% sure who the caller is are or what they really want.

I think this is an example of a woman who could not handle the embarrassment or intrusion that the whole thing created in her life. I wouldn't be surprised if the odd joke was fired at at work.

The reason someone takes their life in unique to the individual. What might appear to be a small stressor to person A could be major to person B. Imagine how it felt to be embarrassed in the school yard in front of a few friends. This woman was embarrassed in front of the world.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few redtop story monkeys where calling her up and trying to get an exclusive with the woman who's voice appeared on the prank call audio. I feel for her. As said, the radio guys have now got to answer for their actions but whatever happens very few people will remember the name of this nurse in few months maybe even weeks and that is truly sad.
