Hi all,

Hope you can shed some light on my current woes.

Having spent winter straightening out driver, I was all optimistic about new qualifying season comps. However, all is now not "absolutely peachy".

I have gone from being a consistent iron striker to being like a novice again and it`s all happened last weekend and last night. 3 shanks Saturday; 5 Sunday; and last night with an iron it was embarrassing. Shanks, pushes, pull and thins. I hadn`t got a clue. On one par 3, I shanked my tee shot so played a provisional and put it in exactly the same place. :o :o :o

Going to the range later to try and sort it, but any advice really welcome... Please

I suffered badly last month (and the month before that etc) it turned out only a simple change to my takeaway sorted it, basically get the wrist cocking faster so the club picks up and away quickly and normal downswing.
apparently it encourages a straighter path on the way back and keeps the clubface in check.

Other things you can try, pull your back foot back around 3-4 inches as your body will have more room to get get a better line through the ball instead of an extreme line which the shank loves. You could also try feelng less weight on your toes so you dont move closer to the ball as you strike it as this keeps the hozzle away from the ball.

Bottom line is you're not squaring the clubface near impact and the hosel is catching the ball. Got to release the clubhead better.

Split hands drill - leave a gap of 6" between hands and practice swing, get feeling of right hand turning over left through impact.

Also make sure you're leading the downswing from the bottom up - hips torso then arms, not arms first.

I do feel for you as I went through exactly the same all winter.

It basically turned out to be my weight distribution, well at first it was. I had too much weight on the front of my feet and therefore falling towards the ball on my downswing. All was rosy for a time when out of the blue the sh**ks returned. A lesson later and this time it was a mixture of my back swing (reverse C as I believe it’s called) and hands, I was tipping rather than rotating and this prevented me getting my hands over through impact and presenting the club as if I was playing a defensive cricket shot.

Oh and check your distance...

Hopefully this helps

Thanks to each of you for worthwhile cure attempts.

I will particulary take note of the bit about using a "bay on the right hand side so you aren't fizzing balls across the other bays."

Thanks again. Will let you konw how it went later.

Guys, thank you for your tips. It feels so much better losing range balls. :o :D

Seriously though, think I may have it sorted and thankfully only a temporary blip in confidence. :D

Played like god today, 3 over par for 13 holes, but still managed to squeeze in a massive 100 yard shank. You are not alone, and never will be.

Bandit.

I found when I suffered the Jodrells a few years ago it was because my legs were getting too "busy" and I was getting ahead of the ball. I quietened them down a bit and that seemed to work.
