Hi forum muckers, lazy poster Deke here.Just wanted to say hi after another break from the forum, and to give you all some idea of my progress.I have played a good few rounds since my last post and i am scoring 94-100 my last few attempts. My wonderful wife bought me a one hour lesson to be used asap and i am not quite sure what to expect! Having got new irons recently do you think i should focus on hitting these with the pro or should i concentrate on the worst part of my game(my 3 wood and hybrid)? Maybe avoiding any planning and going with the pro's idea on what i should be doing would be better? What did you good folk work on during your first lesson? As usual all feedback welcome and im sorry if my post bores you! Cheers :D

Hi Deke, welcome back to the forum.

I would go to the lesson without too many pre-conceptions of what to achieve, the liklihood is the pro will want to check your grip and set-up and then see you hit a few mid irons before suggeting a few tweaks - or congratulating you on a perfect swing :D

The main thing is you will need to spend a few sessions at the range in the weeks afterwards to groove any changes he tries to make, having the lesson is just the easy bit lol

Thanks Whereditgo,i think you are probably right, the pro knows a lot more than me! Will be hitting the range solidly after my lesson as i want to improve as much as possible before finally joining a club around april.Anyone else?

Deke, the problem is the pro doesn't know your game like you do.
Have a think before the lesson what you want to improve the most.
Tee-shots, irons, wedges, bunkers, putting etc.
Then ask the pro for his advice on where to start on whatever part of your game you've chosen.
And ask lots of questions :D

Thanks Bob,more good advice! By far the part of my game that needs most work is my long clubs(driver ok but 3 wood and hybrid very inconsistent).Would your v-easy help my long game? Been tempted to buy one for a while now! Any advice appreciated.

It depends on why your inconsistant.
If your aim is all over the place on every shot, then yes, The V-Easy will help.
If it's more of a swing problem, then it probably wont. :(

Swing not that bad recently, not sure about posture.Thank goodness i have a chance to ask my pro! Have a feeling i might be one of your newest customers! ;)

My advice would be to stick to one specific. Is it the ball striking in the long game or the direction that is the issue. If you go in with a simple idea of where you see the problem he'll sort you out. Chances are the bad shot will be aligned to poor posture and alignment especially on the longer clubs anyway which offer the least forgiveness on a bad swing. As a result he'll no doubt address those issues anyway

Thank you Homer.I think i will mention my long game woes and see what he comes up with.If i get something out of the lesson i will book more to work on other areas/basics.Cheers lads some very good answers, cant wait till my lesson now!

Your lesson is about you and your pro working together. If your pro doesn't know your game you're gonna have to help him out.

If you're only having one lesson, have a think about what you want advice about most.

Just let the pro do what they do best and that's offer you advice and help. I'm sure that they'll help you out with just a few simple tips and swing thoughts that'll help you improve. I would suggest that one lesson is not enough, in fact far from it. If you and this pro click, I'd suggest booking a couple more lessons.

If you don't think this pro explains things very well then post again later and I'll give you a couple of names of a guys that I would use in and around the Glasgow area.

Hi Deke, i am pretty new to Golf and was hitting about 125 a round so decided to have some lessons and have dropped on average about 30 shots of a round, a good bit of advise i got was to have a video analysis done and then you can watch it back with the pro and both decide where to improve your game, so being new he started me with the PW and worked my way through the bag and i as ihave already said dropped 30 shots !

Thanks Craw and Twigster, much appreciated input! If I get on with the guy I will book a block of lessons,if not I will give you a shout Craw for your list of guys.Very happy with all your responses forum buddies,it's good to be back! :D
