The ASA have banned the new Heinz Beans advert which shows people using them as drums.

9 People complained and the ASA have banned it as it encourages dangerous behaviour and people could harm themselves trying to copy the advert.

Just how sad are these 9 people, ridiculous and probably given Heinz more publicity than they could ever have wished for from the Ad itself.

The ban is because of sharp edges on opened cans, but Heinz cans have ring pull openings which I would have though don't leave serrated edges.

But other makes do not ?
The side opening can opener leaves a very sharp edge on a can.
I am sensible enough never to give that to a child but watching the odd TV show these days I am not sure all adults are.
Sensible move IMHO glad to be a Saddo if it protects young children.

Sad thing these days is that there professional complainers, those that like a whinge and are argumentative just for the hell of it.

I don't know what is more sad, the fact that 9 people complained and that their complaint was upheld, or that the minority get to speak for the majority.

As Doon wrote most adults with an ounce of common sense would ensure the can was not dangerous before passing to anyone that would be vulnerable, but then as Paperboy writes, you could put it down to natural selection.

thing is as well if it is a different can make, it would of bean a differant sound and there could of bean copyright infringements re sound quality. 😁

Glad it has been banned coz it got on my wick.

Just heard a guy from the ASA explaining this. It wasn't banned as such. Heinz were requested to put a warning on the TV version of the ad to say the edges should be taped up before doing this like they do on their online version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VK9p7DZcEqk). They chose not to and withdrew the ad. Hardly an "it's an outrage" or "world gone mad" story.

Nobody has posted "it's an outrage" or "world gone mad" comment, just "sad", it will of been passed by the ASA initially has been seen millions and is now deemed dangerous due to 9 complaints. There are plenty of adverts that can be seen as dangerous if we look hard enough or if we want to be "sad" enough.

Sorry, wasn't suggesting you had, I was just likening the scenario to a lot of stories the press print that when you look into them a bit are being made to look sensational when they aren't. The stories are in reality bollox......but people believe them in the sensationalised format......now that's sad.

I'm only concerned for the 9 people that complain.... to think they've sat there, thought about it and then decided to contact someone to complain - some people have too much time on their hands.

same as people that complain about TV programmes - dont like it, turn off.

No problem😃 I'm more shocked, as others have said, people find time to be offended by it.
