HCP cut guide

Can anybody provide a simple guide to target shots / stableford scores to get a hcp cut per cat 4,3,2,1 etc

Let say the course is Par 69 CSS 70

CAT 4 =

CAT 3=

CAT 2=

CAT 1 =

Am i right that you would need at least 36 points stableford for a cut ?

This seems to crop up on occasion and i am slightly baffled myself to when the cut kicks in etc ( buffer zones )

The number of stableford points to achieve a cut is the same for all categories - only the amount of cut differs between categories.

In your example:
par 69, SSS (not CSS) 70, the number of points to "play to handicap" is 35.
If par and SSS are the same, 36 points is "playing to handicap".
If par is 1 more than SSS, 37 points is "playing to handicap". and so on.

In all cases:
if CSS goes down 1 (the most it can go down) you need 1 more point to "play to handicap".
If CSS goes up 1 (the most it can go up is 3), you need 1 point less to "play to handicap". and so on.

I hope that makes sense (I won't confuse you with CSS being SSS+3 (Reductions Only).

What about nett score, lets assume i shoot net 69 would that not achieve any cut, i assume it must be less than 69 ?

Hi Bob currently off 22 ( rubbish i know ) but its getting better slowly

I seem to struggle to keep it together over 18 holes so for the first 12 holes approx i am a bandit and then i slip up and chuck it away and play to my hcp.

Technically i am very good about golf and its faults ( ive had most of them ) but putting it together over 18 holes is the tough one.

I have absolutely no problems maintaining my faults over 18 holes.............

It's not that simple. Your score for handicap purposes is based on stableford points or the points your medal score would equate to.

Just to avoid confusion, your figures apply to a course with par 69 and SSS 69 and Cat 3 player only.

Sorry should have said I'm a cat 3 player and SSS at course is 69. I understand how buffer will change from 3 shots Cat3, 2 shots Cat2 and 1shot Cat 1.

It takes a while to figure it all out...

if you shoot 69 and CSS is the same as SSS then you would get a 0.4 cut.

Handicaps are not based on par.
