My signature tells the tale of my season so far. Last year was playing off 25. A positive few comps this season saw my h/cap stabilise. However, subsequent comps saw my handicap rise game by game to 26.3.
My round yesterday went quite well. The front 9 went particularly well. Went a bit pear shaped on the back 9 which affected my score. Finished with 32 points after recording a few blobs on my card.

Long and short of it is that for the first time since the beginning of the season my h/cap hasn't gone up .1.

Very pleased and hoping that my game has now plateaued. I'm gaining confidence with more of my game aspects. My driving has seen improvement with just one or two stray drives yesterday.

Next competition will be a medal! Let's see how I got on with that one. Breaking 100 on a regular basis is top of my agenda, always seem to be a shot or two over but feel confident the time is now due for successive sub 100 rounds. My confidence has been shattered quite a few times this season but I still seem to be able to bounce back and press on with the next competition.

No doubt if I have got it all wrong in my mind the good people of the forum will let me know! ;)

I wonder if you are going out with too much expectation in the medals, trying to break 100 regularly and worrying about your handicap. I've beent here and it took a long time to realise that it doesn't help and these days I'm playing with a lot more of a carefree attitude and relaxing more. I still try, but bad shots aren't the end of the world now and I just try and make the best score I can. If you take the pressure off yourself I'm sure you'll a) have more fun and b) beat your targets and get cut without even thinking about it

Try not to get to caught up with your handicap and trying to beat targets. You're only supposed to play to your handicap 3 or 4 times a year so don't put to much pressure on yourself.

I used to put so much pressure on myself to play to my h'cap and as a result I went from 9.0 to 13.6 without a single cut in between.

I've now learned not to put pressure on. I'm convinced I have tne ability to get to 7 or 8, maybe less but until recently my mental handicap was about 14 or 15.

The saying that the most important 8" of golf is between your ears is so so true.

Conquer that and your scores will improve and yout h'cap will fall.
