Hamond's U-Turn!

why should the self-employed pay less NIC anyway? They get the same healthcare, pension etc.

a cynic might think this has been dropped as it will affect Tory voters in the main.

The argument is the self employed don't get sick pay, maternity leave etc. I believe those issues are going to be addressed by a commission that is working at the moment. Hammond jumped the gun and should have waited for the commissions report.

Your last sentence is very true I believe.

This is the inherent problem with an adversarial system of politics. A proposal is announced in the budget, voters and politicians decry this decision as an affront and, as a result the decision is changed. Then the fact that a change of mind has taken place after taking into account popular opinion then that is an outrage as well. You really cannot win.

I have the same issue with all the Brexit nonsense. All parties blustering on about what type of Brexit we are going to get as if we have total control over that. If Europe want to give us a soft Brexit then we get that, if they want to throw us out in the cold then we get that. You then have people going on about a hard Brexit not being what people voted for, rubbish. People voted for Brexit, not a type of Brexit, they voted to leave Europe and that is what will happen, the consequences or not never came into it.
